NEW SUSPENSION: WHAT SHOULD I GET?

NEW SUSPENSION: WHAT SHOULD I GET?

I must admit upfront, I am completely and totally mechanically illiterate. I know where the gas goes and that's about it! I'm seriously thinking about changing the suspension (springs and shocks) on my 04 SLE. I've done a few searches on the subject, but I don't understand the abbreviations and terms used in most of the posts. Could someone please explain in as simple of terms as possible what you think I should do? Here's what I want.

I loved the ride of the SE Sport Solara, but needed the luxury options offered by the SLE. So now that I the SLE I want to give it the nice firm, sporty ride that the SE Sport had. I don't want the SLE to have any stiffer ride than the SE Sport.

Would you recommend I have my Toyota dealership merely replace my current shocks and springs with the factory shock and springs found on the SE Sport? Or should I go with a manufacturer who specializes in such suspension parts because they may be better quality and cheaper? I don't want to lower the car anymore than an inch at most!

Remember...keep it simple! I ain't real smart 'n stuff when it comes to talkin' dem carz.

If you need me to be more specific, please let me know what info you need.

I don't think there are any parts available for your car yet.

I would wait for an aftermarket company to make the struts and springs for your car. Toyota dealership will probably charge up the a** to put in the se sport suspension.

stick around with the suspension you have now, and blow a good amt on something good.

on the next car i get, i wont bother with springs/strut combo, im going directly to coilovers.

Thanks for the advise! But what's a coilover? And why are they better than springs/shocks combo? Are they more money?

Told ya I didn't know much about this stuff! :D

Height of the car can be adjusted with coilovers. They usually cost more than springs and struts, but Ground Control for the gen1 solara is $400 while JIC for gen1 is $1500.

get REAL coilover systems from companies like JIC or Tein.

GC (ground control) are just the coil sleeves and will give you a harsh ride.
