AEM FIC installed

AEM FIC installed

Wow that was NOT fun at all, but i figured i'd knock it out today. It wasn't as bad as i thought. I had already separated the wires i would be using and the ones i wouldn't. At one point i got confused looking at the wiring diagram for the injectors, but i figured it out. Also, i wasn't able to use the crank sensor. The negative side connects with the cam sensors negative somewhere in the harness so you cant get that signal. Well i guess you could if you ran two wires up to the sensor itself, but i didn't feel like doing all that. Just for shits and giggles, i tapped the cam sensors negative side anyway and moved on with the rest of the install. Once i finished, my lap top wouldn't connect to the FIC. I unistalled the AEM software and installed the lastest...still wouldn't connect. I tried reflashing it, and i couldn't. After 45 minutes or so, i realized the ecu was powering the FIC :oops: so i unplugged the harness and it worked. I let it do its thing and when it finished i try to start the car. All it did was turn over, but it wouldn't fire. I immediately thought about the crank sensor, took those wires off and tried again. IT WORKED! But it ran like absolute sh*t and i had a CEL for Number 3 cyl missfire and cam sensor something something. I checked the wiring again....realized the injector 3 in and out where backwards, and i flipped the cam sensor wires too. She fired up and ran ..a little rich...but it ran. I took a quick test drive, no CEL's. There's a slight hesitation at lower rpm in 2nd (dammit its back!) but thats only at WOT. Other than that, it runs just as well as it did before i started. The only thing left is, i'm gonna go ahead and tap the O2 sensors and see if there's away to get a tach signal to the FIC since it doesn't have an input for one...but thats probably what the crank sensor was for...that and ignition control. BRING ON THE BOOST! :evilbat:

yup!! The solara ecu really really really doesn't like the crank sensor signal being messed with. I decided to run some wires into the engine and tap the signal there, tried to start the car, it would fire and die right away. I checked all the connections. I even switched the wires around and that didn't help at all. I dunno what it is. So i cant retard timing now. Oh well. I can dump plenty of fuel in it though! I messed with the fuel map change some numbers at idle and you could hear the difference in the engine when adding or taking away fuel. I tried it again i high speeds...it was a little much cuz it bogged down really bad. I set all of the cells back to zero. Then i played with MAF map. This is where the fun happened. I just threw in a random number (5) from 3800 rpm up and 1.5volts and up...let me tell you..my car has never pulled like this before. The butt dyno wasn't lying. I tried the opposite. I floored it and once i passed 3800, i set all the cells to zero and felt the car slow down. I tried it again, this time going from zero to 5 and felt it just take off :D Even the sound changed, kinda like when the ACIS valve actuates when you're at WOT.

here's a quick vid of it going through one of the maps

did you tap into the CPS wires or intercept them?

intercepted it at first per AEM instructions, then i just tapped it for the rpm signal

I found a post on some random webiste that you must use a resistor on the CPS... Hope you get it sorted out bcuz if you cant retard your timing for the boost, you'll run into pre-detonation problems and poor HP gains.

interesting. I know the instructions said a resistor would be needed if it was being hooked up to a narrow band 02 sensor, but nothing about the crank sensor. Maybe i'll give it a shot

::edit::

i forgot to mention there's gonna be meth injection for that, and i only run 92 octane

great job! let us know how it goes once you start boosting!

just keep a close eye on your tunes, as the FIC doesn't have the best track record when it comes to toyota ecus....though, to be honest, toyota ecu's don't like piggy backs in general lol

i was actually able to retard timing :D ...car didn't like that at all while not under boost. At least i know it works now. I gotta go back in there and solder the connections. Once i moved it into the glove box i started getting a cel for random/multiple misfires, so i'll take care of that this week
