Russian Guy, very nice post and I agree with most of it except you cannot get as much air through a flat filter with a 2 1/2 or 3" opening to it as you can a 360 degree cone at the end of a pipe. If you want proof, look at your flat filter after many hours of operation, you will see that almost all of the dirt collects right where that source of air comes from. That is where the majority of air comes in. The 360 degree cone truely takes air in all the way around. This concept was proven many years ago and has been used on many performance vehicles as long as I can remember ( a long time
).
I like what you said about the air-flow and completely agree. I think Danny had a good design putting the air filter low and front then removing the fog light for forced air. I don't like the look but the concept is very sound. I agree completely with your assesment of moe's CAI. It is by far the best concept I've seen. I sure wish they'd pollish it up and sell it (hint hint).
As for XERD, I have asked MANY times if they could explain the concept to me or show me pics. I simply want to know where they intend to locate the filter. Some people call CAI simply pushing the filter (source of air) slightly further away from the engine itself but still in the engine compartment (colder air at best). Looking at the pics on the XERD web page, it doesn't look long enough to get it out of the engine compartment. I just want to know if I'm waiting for Cold Air or simply Colder Air. I am happy to wait and trust that they are doing the best they can and they'll let us know when it's ready. It's just that we've been waiting for SO long (not for XERD but for any CAI). -JoeB
