if i press the pedal down it doesnt do anything but if i press it down a couple more times it will finally start working. is this related to some kind of leak in the bmc? or is it something else? i checked all the lines and there are no leaks and the bmc seems to be holding fluid.
any ideas?
Sounds like you need to go back and bleed the lines again. Bleed EVERY corner of the car in this order: right rear, left rear, right front, left front (as viewed from the driving position). If you STILL have a poor/no brakes, then you may need a master cylinder. My feeling is that you just need to bleed, though.
The syptoms you describe are text-book for having air in the brake lines.
When you pump the brakes and the pedal finally firms up (and the brakes work), does the pedal stay up or does it sink slowly to floor when you apply pressure? If you have a sinking pedal, that indicates a bad mc where no other leaking has been observed (as in your situation).
It is not the booster! A bad booster merely makes it harder to press the pedal. It will not keep your brakes from functioning in any way.
