QUESTION: DIY installation for intake

QUESTION: DIY installation for intake

Postby yaddadaimsayin » Thu Jan 15, 2009 1:37 am

I'm deciding between the cp-e and sri right now and i'm hoping to make the purchase by this weekend. The only thing thats stopping me from gettin the cp-e is that the price is pretty much double of the sir. anyways, as far as DIY installation goes.. how does the difficulty level compare between the CP-E and SRI? It looks a lot more complicated and difficult. Anything I should specifically watch out for?

CPE all they way do you want a noise maker or do you want a power gain? Install for thew SRI and CPE are about the same mechanically both are very easy. The wiring for the CPE controller box is easy with the clips provided you need minimal tools and they give good instructions. You can use the clips the provide and I would secure them with electrical tape so they don't vibrate. Personally I had some problems with them making a quality connection after about a year of use so I spent a half hour and soldered them. If you are not sure how I put a link in my sig and all of the heat shrink and connectors cost me about 7 dollars at harborfreight. I had a full CAI before the CPE and I would never go back.

+1 for Cp-E.

it was my first mod 2 years ago, and it was worth every penny. Nice loud roar and the option to tune the a/f mixture later is a nice option to have

+2 for cp-e
being someone who's done a custom intake myself, i gotta say that the effort isn't worth the CEL

regular intakes will only make noise, even the injen only shows minimal gains w/o tuning (regular intakes need to be 2.75" in diameter to maintain accurate MAF readings, without re-tuning)

cp-e is a 3.5" piping (larger than anything you'll get w/o remapping the a/f ratio), and it comes with a module that will adjust your a/f ratio so that no CELs are thrown.

install is pretty easy if you can use a wrench and screwdriver, and have about an hour or two of free time.

for the wiring portion (if you go the cp-e route) then there are numerous people here who can help with the splicing specifics, and the best way to do that (i.e. check midias' sig for link)

haha very true. 3.5 is much more impressive than anything else I've come across and the power gains for the SRI are midget compared to the cp-e. i guess its just the soldering thats kind of discouraging me. thanks for the help. i'm about to be THAT much poorer.. but THAT much faster 8) good call. I'll hit you guys up later if I have any installation problems.

+1000 on the CP-e. You don't HAVE to solder... (don't tell Midias I said that! 8) )... but you SHOULD!

The CP-e is THE BEST single mod (performance wise) that you can make to the 'lara... and it works FLAWLESSLY. (Has for me, anyway... nearly 50k miles with it on now, ZERO issues, and GREAT gains!)

PS: Don't forget about the CRISPMONGO filter, too!

G/L!

AHHA you guys were right! I just installed the cp-e today. Not much noise difference until higher rpm but I could definitely feel a push :D Love it. And it only took this noob 3 hours to complete. much better than I expected.
