I think what Danny was saying is that it won't give you much power gain on the dyno run. In a dyno run your car is stationary no moving air so the hood is up with a fan blowing in. With that, the heat is not being trapped under the hood as in normal driving. That gives both the short ram and the CAI similar air temps. The CAI is moved a little further away from heat producing engine parts so it is a very small advantage on dyno runs. So CAI should provide better seat HP  .

I really want to see the installed pics more than the dyno numbers. The pic of the product itself shows what looks to be a pipe that is just a little longer than the short ram intake. I want to be convinced that it TRULY is CAI. Where does the filter set? Is it TRULY getting COLD air? It looks like it keeps it almost in the same place, just moves it a little further to the front and down. I will wait for the installed pics. I've been waiting forever for CAI for my '99 as it is... A true CAI will move the source of the air to in the fender (then you should add vents for air induction preferably) or front low like what I think Danny was doing. This part didn't look long enough for either but I am hopefully optimistic and will wait a little longer! :)

I think Eyal has been pretty good about getting us info, these things do take time. I will be patient and appreciate the information as it comes. Not speaking for Eyal obviously (I couldn't if I wanted to  ), but I believe he'll be fair and allow us time after the info is posted to access the info and make a purchasing decision. -JoeB

I don't remember if Eyal told us what material the CAI was made of. If it's just stainless steal, will it have a coating on it? Or do we need to add heat shielding ourselves? I vaguely remember reading in other threads that CAIs may take in cold air at the filter, but because of the engine bay temperature, the air is heated as it moves towards the intake manifold...thus cancelling much of the primary benefits of a CAI.

I'm a little disappointed in the limited amount of testing performed by XERD on this particular part. Eyal makes it clear that he doesn't believe an intake is very hard to make. However, there is a reason why AEM can charge close to $300 dollars for their V2 intake. It isn't because no other company makes CAI for Hondas, because there are plenty of cheap cold airs available for those cars. However, V2's were highly engineered and refined using extensive research to fine-tune the air flow dynamics. Sure, you can just hook up any piece of piping and call it a CAI, but a V2 has proven to provide 18hp in the RSX.

In my opinion, though it may be worthless, XERD seems a little too eager to send their first CAI out the door... I don't know anything about their financial situation: they may have an ample budget for research and development or they might be struggling to make ends meet. I don't have a clue, but I would suggest that a quality performance part company worry more about making the best products, rather than worrying mostly about finishing off projects. That's one thing I think the members of this forum pride themselves on...not settling for worthless parts like the ricers out there. Then again, I've never really had a mind for business :-?

In any case, it is now the day after the day Eyal was supposed to post numbers for us. I don't really care if all the computers in his whole company went down with a virus infestation...he could have gone to the public library to at least post a message for us letting us know what was going on. Some people have posted support for Eyal, which I believe is in efforts to maintain good relations with XERD. You all will probably chop my head off and castrate me...sorry, I don't have a mind for business! I just think he could have been more professional. Missing deadlines is reasonable, because we all know that things don't always work out like they're supposed to. Failing to communicate to others involved in a business deal, however, is a serious problem.

kronos98, Eyal said they are going to offer 3 colors, blue, red and polished. As far as heat shield, that is probably a good point, it would probably be a good idea to put a heat resistant cover over the intake tube but I'm not familiar with intake manufacturers providing that, just something you need to add later. Won't look as good but would be more functional. -JoeB

I don't want to start a war, but someone said this before. Other companies that make car parts read these forums too. By showing impatience and getting all mad, we display an attitude that most probably do not want to deal with. I can't remember what the exact quote was but the gist was no one makes parts we complain, someone makes parts we are critical, our group is never satisfied. Cattman was developing a CAI came out with a prototype and whoop we never heard from them again. The companies read these post as well even if they don't post an update asap. Everyone complaining seems like a child, be patient, like I said we all have waited this long what's a few more days. Wait a few days, by the end of the week and if there's no word from Xerd. Go ahead you deserve the right to be mad. How long did it take for just headers to be released for the 1MZ? A very long time. But now we have JP as a point man in header production.

Don' t get me wrong I'm not defending anyone or taking any sides, I just want to present the facts. Let the flaming begin. 8)

dam, didn't even think bout wha kronos is sayin...eyal?? :-? Also, we have two more days to get the part at 179, but let's wait to see wha happens n if eyal can't deliver let's get madd then. Otherwise, I jus see it as Xerd puttin some finishin touches or they thought of somethin else that could help us out. Stuff like that, i don't wanna rush'em...i want my dam 179 worth 8)

COLORS

Postby Guest » Wed Aug 20, 2003 9:42 am

I Love Colors Cmmon the color is the most important part of an Intake wweeeee hooooo The Intakes should be cnc machined aluminum, it's the best material to help dissapate heat, such as f1 cars have aluminum hoses.

At least we know if we buy an intake from Xerd it will look pretty!!

Just think of all the CAIs we have to choose from for our car now... And, to some people color is important (not me). Regarding the material, I'm just guessing because I'm an electrical engineer rather than a mechanical engineer but I would think the materials ability to dissipate heat would be important for parts producing heat. What you really want is a material that will reflect heat rather than dissipate it. Because the air coming in the intake is cool (hopefully, that is our goal), the hot air would be from the engine compartment. You certainly don't want the CAI's pipe dissipating hot air into the cool air stream. Please give XERD a chance. -JoeB

hello,

Sorry guys i have been very busy trying to finish up a few different projects and didnt get a chance to dyno the car yet.

The dyno is a go for tomorrow morning and i should be able to post the results by noon time.

I know everyone is excited about this intake myself included, so give me until tomorrow to get the dyno results to you.

As for us rushing to release the intakes, we dont have to at all for that matter. The people on this forums asked us to make this product in the first place, we thought it would be a fun project so we did it, simple as that.

You want us to test the product for another 3 months, just let us know and we wont release it for another 3 months or so, no problem. We are here for you, let us know what you want from us.

If anyone does want to purchase this intake however i will give everyone more time since we got backed up. All orders must be received by Friday the 29th if you want to get it for the $179.00 price. We will have dyno results by tomorrow.

Thank you, Eyal.

Haha! Hey Eyal. I hope you're not taking this forum in the wrong way. You have to understand the position we're in, and I think some of us need to appreciate Eyal and XERD's position.

For us, Eyal, we're like the little kids and you're the big adult. We're just impatient and antsy about the cool toys you're going to provide us with. Please don't take our impatience and temper as anything other than that! We're just that...the little kids! You're the provider...you're the one holding the candy just high enough that we can't reach it! To us, you're a big bully!

A characteristic of large companies with huge markets is that they are stable and secure, almost to the point of being too comfortable. Like AEM, who is unwilling to put the effort to make parts for us.

XERD is just getting into the game. They don't yet have a lot to show for. They're stake at the business is a little shaky...not implying that it will be in the future or anything like that. Right now, they're trying to make a name and reputation for themselves. Let's help them out, and support them. I'm sure they'll return the favor when they can. :D

question:
someone said that the CAI may not necessarily provide us w/ hp but it will prevent us from losing power...i thought power had a lot todo with our hp. Explain? :fadein:

if i read it wrong then sorry heh :)

i think the concept here is actualizing our potential hp. adding upgrades like superchargers and forged pistons or whatever it may be will in fact increase the HP above what the engine was previously capable of producing.

upgrades like CAI, intake manifold, exhaust, headers, intercoolers...these kind of upgrades reduce the restrictions on the engine, either backpressure of some kind or heat. by bringing in cold air, it lowers the temperature of the air going into the cylinders, meaning we lose less power to heat.

pretty much, what they're trying to say is don't expect too much of a gain from this CAI. :D

someone go through all undo all the damage i've caused with my malformed information

I'll try. Power IS hp (same thing). I said I'm not looking for a big improvement in hp because of what it can do for you. As long as you can burn it, taking in more air and more fuel will increase hp. A short RAM intake with the 360 deg filter allows for more air to come in than a stock air box. The problem is, after the car warms up it is taking in hot air which is bad for hp. A true CAI will re-route the air filter (air source) away from the warm air in the engine compartment. Usually front low. CAI prevents you from losing hp as the air in the engine compartment heats up.

On a dyno run you don't have the same air flow. Normal driving the hood is closed and air is rushing to the front of the car. During the dyno test, the car is stationary with the hood up and a fan blowing hard at the front and top to cool it. Because that cooler fresh air can get into a short RAM intake, the differences won't seem too impressive. The difference is the performance gain from CAI is much more consistant than that of a short RAM intake. Either 1 of them is good just for allowing more air in. Hope it helps. -JoeB
