Just installed Jpp Headers today on i4

Postby lemmez » Wed Apr 23, 2008 9:36 pm

I just got back from installing my jpp headers and the sound is horrible. It sounds like a civic on crack. My ass dyno already feels gains even with the cel light on. This friday im going to take it back to my exhaust shop add a new mid pipe and fix my headers. Ill post some video clips and dyno results then. Wish me luck :)
hey did you guys know that jp performance does the headers for my exhaust shop? and vice versa? i just found out today. If you guys are looking for a performance exhaust i highly recommend Zoomers Exhaust. They are well known with tundra forum as well as the titan and charger forums. I'm so excited to see my dyno results from my exhaust/intake/header set up. :D

its a i4.

it sounds worst.. much worst than a honda because when i installed my headers it removed the first cat. im so embarrassed to even floor it cause it sounds like a weed whacker now. i really cant wait to get my resonator.
Thats exactly why i wont post sound clips just yet, i dont wanna hurt anyones ears.
If i get a custom midpipe, will that remove my 2nd cat?

Tbh i don't feel a loss in torque at all. Ill find out on Friday when i dyno it. Right not i don't think my car is running at its full potentinal because of the cel light. I think the engine is running lean. If i have a full exhaust + headers shouldn't i gain torque? i plan on putting the scion tc super charger on this lara one of these days. i would eventually need to upgrade the headers anyways, so i did it early.

Oh and i forgot to add that im a 2az-fe 5speed. After reading more scion forms and a bunch of others i found out that you dont loose torque. You just more your power band up higher. After 3000 rpms my car is a monster cept it sounds like crap atm. Correct me if im wrong about the power band thing guys. I'm new with all this tuning stuff and terms.

Do you have an intake to drown out the weedwhacker? Not sure what a good muffler would do for an I4, but I hope you can get the sound better with something. HP is the goal, but sound is pretty important too. (I love cp-e)

Compare notes with Tact.

This will probably be your best bet to get rid of the buzzy sound.

So, we have two cats then (precat and cat in midpipe)?

yup you got it. remember if you get headers and remove that first cat, dont forget to get a larger muffler and at least 1 resonator also. Without that cat ur car will sound like poo.

This has been my theory... there will be more HP gains than TQ gains, but that can't be called a TQ loss. Apparently, some blame that there could be a loss of TQ brought by the reduction of exhaust pulses (help scavenge exh. gases), which occur naturally on the stock semi-header and exhaust system.

I thought my car felt pulling at its strongest from 3k rpm up to 4k rpm... IMO, that means it only got better and something it already was...

You think just one cat will do it for you and Cal emission tests? What exactly is the Cali test comprised of? Ours they check for no CELs then plug something in the cars behind... thats it. Never had a car fail on me before, even 15 yo cars...
