CEL shows bad O2 sensor, anyone have pics of fuse box area?
Hello,
I've got a check engine light, it first came on 3 days ago in a heavy rainstorm. Perhaps puddle induced. Initially there was a weird smell that almost smelled like burning clutch, but different, can't really describe it any better than that. Burning fluid is a possibility.
Autozone scanned it, said it was an Oxygen sensor. Maybe the guy said bank 1. He said if I reset my ECU it might go away, and if it comes back it may be time for a new sensor. Also said it's running in warm up mode which is costing me gas mileage.
I pulled my "Main" fuse from the fuse box in the engine bay thinking that that's how to reset the ECU. It was out for probably about 5 minutes, but when I restarted the car the CEL was still there. Do I perhaps need to disconnect the negative battery cable, or is it more likely that I have a problem?
One more thing I noticed is that there is some sort of a wire with a ribbed plastic surround and some sort of electronics connector behind the engine bay fuse box, toward the bottom of it, that's just in front of the strut tower, so it's in between the strut tower and the fuse box. It wasn't connected to anything, does anyone know what that is or have a pic of that area so I can see what it's supposed to go to? I did a search but couldn't find one.
On a side note:
I was going to have a tune up done soon, so this is pretty good timing. I have about 121,000 miles on it, are O2 sensors supposed to be replaced at this point? And what else should I look at having done since I'm about to drive across the country? Thank you, and sorry for the long message.
