Hello,

I've got a check engine light, it first came on 3 days ago in a heavy rainstorm. Perhaps puddle induced. Initially there was a weird smell that almost smelled like burning clutch, but different, can't really describe it any better than that. Burning fluid is a possibility.

Autozone scanned it, said it was an Oxygen sensor. Maybe the guy said bank 1. He said if I reset my ECU it might go away, and if it comes back it may be time for a new sensor. Also said it's running in warm up mode which is costing me gas mileage.

I pulled my "Main" fuse from the fuse box in the engine bay thinking that that's how to reset the ECU. It was out for probably about 5 minutes, but when I restarted the car the CEL was still there. Do I perhaps need to disconnect the negative battery cable, or is it more likely that I have a problem?

One more thing I noticed is that there is some sort of a wire with a ribbed plastic surround and some sort of electronics connector behind the engine bay fuse box, toward the bottom of it, that's just in front of the strut tower, so it's in between the strut tower and the fuse box. It wasn't connected to anything, does anyone know what that is or have a pic of that area so I can see what it's supposed to go to? I did a search but couldn't find one.

On a side note:
I was going to have a tune up done soon, so this is pretty good timing. I have about 121,000 miles on it, are O2 sensors supposed to be replaced at this point? And what else should I look at having done since I'm about to drive across the country? Thank you, and sorry for the long message. :D

what's the code? (P0135?)

to reset the ECU the neg terminal on the battery must be disconnected for ~10 min.

Sorry, I didn't get the code from him. Is there a range of problems or something?

Common on a few solara. Just buy a new rear sensor and throw it on. Seems like allot of people get that here even me.

Well I disconnected and reconnected the battery to reset the ECU about 24 hours ago. Did so in the manner described above (Thanks and stay high, Chinky420).

No CEL yet, so it looks like that was it. I guess I must've gotten something electronic wet, or maybe water went up into the intake and out the exhaust and made that smell or something, which is weird because the intake is stock, but whatever. Anyway, unless it takes longer for the problem to resurface it looks like all is well so thank you all for the help!
