Clutch Giving Problems...

Hey Guys I don't know if anyone has had experience with this kind of problem but here it goes. The problem is that whenever I push down on the clutch pedal a stop it won't let me put the stick into gear. Occurring at a red turned green light i regrettably had to shove the stick into first having to hear the dreaded grinding of gears... I had my mechanic look at it and before he tried to fix it he told me that it might need to be replaced. He adjusted a few things and then it was fixed for a while... 6 hours later clutch is completely gone and from every light i stop at i had to shove the stick to get home. I thought about what it could be but all i can think of is that its got something to do with the pressure plate. The clutch is a SPEC stage 2 Clutch and is only like a year and a half old and also the master and slave cylinder were replaced last month to fix a pedal sticking problem. My dad thinks that this is happening because it is a racing clutch so if it has to be changed again its gonna be an OEM part this time around. Any advice would be welcome.

I have read that the higher performance clutches don’t last as long. I went with a normal Exedy clutch in my Celica vs. a stage 2 or 3.

I didn't know race clutch not last that long. Replace it with OEM clutch.

Racing clutch requires higher rev to get moving. Daily driving people tend to to be a bit lazy, causing it to wear down faster. My cousins integra has a stage 4 pluk clutch and has it for 4 years now and not a single problem. He goes off the line at 3500rpm.

My other friends scion tc turbo has a stage 3 6pluck and has it almost 2 years now, not a single problem.

My supra has its clutch for 2 years now with abuse and still holds.


racing clutch does go bad faster unless you know how to drive it.

Also.............. There is a break in story... 3 K miles break in period before you push it. If not they go bad... Trust me. My friends turbo hatch had a stage 3 act clutch....... did not listen on the break in period, the clutch crack and failed. shot the motor.

Spec stage 2+ with fidanza here...no problems after 3 years.

I have the ACT street clutch with a fidanza flywheel with no issues, but Ive only had it for a few months...

How much does a new clutch cost? I want to get either a Fidanza or ACT with an upgraded flywheel. The stock clutch is fine I beleive, but i'm used to a light clutch and the one on my Solara is kinda stiff and it bugs me. I don't want to upgrade to a higher level clutch, but I want the next step higher above OEM. Thanks

hahah thats happen to me sometimes at start up got to rev it pass 2000rpm at least to get it moving spec stage 2 and fidanza

Does anyone make a multiplate clutch for our cars? Or would one from a mr2 or all trac be possible to work?
