Factory alarms

Postby blizown1 » Wed Aug 08, 2007 8:59 am

I just had my solara violated...Someone broke into my car and stole bullshit like CDS and stuff. I thought I had a factory alarm? I tried to see if it worked by my car starts when I thought I had the alarm set. Do i not have a factory alarm? Is the remote just for the doors? I thought I heard it go off before...I recently changed the battery could this have had something to do with the alarm not working? Anyone? Thanks,

I remember the first day i got the car, i tried to test out the factory alarm system. Basically I was inside the car and locked the door. I tried opening the door from the inside but nothing went off. I took it to the dealer after and they fixed something and now when my door opens after being locked, the car honks like crazy.

You don't mention what model Solara you have. The alarm system is (apparently) only standard on the SLE. Checking Toyota's website ( http://www.toyota.com/camrysolara/models.html look under the 'safety' tab) it doesn't appear the factory anti theft system is even offered as an option on the SE or Sport Coupe versions though that might only be for the current year. It's possible (even probable) your dealer offered an alarm system when you purchased the car. If you accepted then you should have received separate alarm system information from the dealer.

If you have an SLE there should be an LED on the dash that shows when the system is activated. Be sure the system is functioning by locking your doors. The red light should go solid and then start blinking to indicate the alarm is set after 30 seconds.

Again, if you have the SLE you can test the alarm. Leave a window open. Set the alarm and when the light begins blinking reach in and open the door from inside. That should set off the horn and alarm horn (the one that beeps when you activate/deactivate the alarm).

There's a whole bunch more information about the Solara alarm in the factory service manual including a bunch of tricks for setting different modes. If you don't have the manual the information is available from the Gadget Solara site (address below). Just open the 'alarm info' which is the last item in the "Tips" section.

Cheers

I have the little blinking light that is next to the left hand side of the steering wheel. I have a SE V6 Coupe. I went thu the manual in my car and it said everything you said about opening the doors and waiting 30 seconds to set the alarm but I havent had time to check it out. I tried the sit in the car and get out thing briefly. I'm the second owner of the car.

I know this topic hasn't been added to in awhile so please allow me to beat this horse again. I think my (and other newbies') confusion is that we read the manual and it states how to test the forced entry but it doesn't say "if available" or "if equipped". I have an '05 SE V6, with the blinking red security light but it does not register forced entries and the security light never goes solid. I spent 30 minutes going through the steps in the manual to test it and looking for any blown fuses before I came to the conclusion that my security light is just for the immobilizer. Horse beating completed!

Mine blinks whether I've set the alarm or not as well.
