2.4L supercharger or turbo???

I am pissed. I was coming back from a swap meet and I'm standing at a light behind the new 06 civic coupe. He takes off and I gun it trying to chase him. I know for a fact that it was not a si (even if he debadged it and judging by the stock muffler). Now, he's in front of me and I'm gaining slowly. Right as the vvt-i feels it is running out and its about to upshift, I lose him. We hit another light and this time he's next to me. I have an auto so if he has a manual then he's got the advantage. Light turns green....I'm steady and keeping up right next to him for the first two gears and then he's gone......again. From my research, a stock civic coupe with a 1.8L engine makes 140hp and 128lb/ft and the 4cyl solara makes 157hp and 162lb/ft. Also the civic's curb weight is around 2698 and my solara's is 3230. So basically, the civic has around a 1 second advantage over my car. This sucks. A frickin civic beat me. Maybe I was driving bad, I dunno. The point of all this BS is that I am seriously considering forced induction now. The 2az-fe is an impressive engine and the Nitto Scion TC has proved that. I asked about normally aspirating the engine earlier and judging by the thread, it seems that its better to do forced induction.

Then here are my questions,

1) How bad of a problem is the hood clearance on the trd supercharger being offered for the tc?
2) Which turbo kit would be best recommended? I'm looking to just make 220+ and something reliable for the most part.
3) On which of these will tuning be a bigger pain in the ass?

BTW, my budget is around 5k and yes i posted this up as soon as I got home from the spanking.

if you are expecting to beat every car on the road a 4 cyl Toyota isn't the best car to start with. Reasons why you lost:

1. Power to weight ratios
2. Different gearing ratios
3. Skill

I would start with a manual swap then you can pick on civics. Untill then stick with metros because chances are a manual civic is putting down the same more HP at the wheels.

+1

I only race my Solara against trucks and vans loaded with teens at 1am. even then, I try not to race. consider getting a new exhaust, intake, and JP header. It will help, but I can't guaruntee much.

Oh, and get one of those ebay HP chips, too! ;)

$5K budget? Sweet.

1st, strip off any mods you've already done.

2nd, trade in your Gen2 2.4L for a Gen2 3.3L. Worst case, use some of the $5K to offset any difference between trade in and purchase.

3rd, Reinstall any mods that will transfer.

4th, any funds left over, do the intake, exhaust, springs, sway bar, etc.

Go find that Honda. I never had an issue against Civics with my Gen2 V-6.

Agreed! These 4cyl Solaras were never meant to race, lol!

Oh, and I've beaten my friend's Civic Si before, so I don't know why you can't win. Maybe it's because I have mods, or maybe it's because you don't have that ebay chip. :(

after the mods, remember to billboard the car with stickers. that makes things faster..

X3 the four banger isn't for racing...should have gotten a Scion if you were looking for speed

Ya, the Scion has a LOT more crap you can put on. We're talking Scion Racing Mufler, Scion SUPER Charger X, Scion WOAH Racing Wheels, Scion ZOOM Tires, and the classic Scion Downforce Wing.

If you wanted a Scion to soup up, don't expect your warranty to last long. The guys at the dealership said that they will void the warranty if there's ANYTHING not Scion put on your car (including HIDs, I even asked). Just my $.02 :)

The 4 cyl ain't that bad... the AUTO doesn't aid, but imagine the AUTO on boost while upshifting. There are some kits for the 2AZ-FE out there, dunno if they work on the AUTO. Still, the advice on getting a 3.3 Solara ain't that bad... if it wasn't for that slush box, that car would rock.

BTW, I dreamt that somebody found a manual that fit the 3.3 :)

hmm....yes the solara 4 banger is not an ideal car to race with. Its heavy, big, limited aftermarket parts...on and on and on.... but, like I stated earlier, I know the 2az-fe is a very capable engine. If a scion tc can be boosted to have over 300whp easily with a simple bolt on turbo kit and being moderately boosted, then the solara should definitely be able to achieve high power also with some slight mods made to the kit and some tuning.

Also, yea I couldve gotten a tc but, I see those on the road every 5 minutes. It seems that every person looking for a compact has that car. Whereas, the solara seems to be more popular with the senior citizens and balding middle-age people who end up buying the convertible to tan their melons. Not to mention the solara is going out of production so it will become even more genuine.

Point is, there arent many tuned solaras out there and when you do find one, its an attention getter. I dont love the car to death, but I see a lot of potential in it. Like I said, I want to boost this b"%^h.

If anyone has/had a solara which was/is forced inducted, then please can you offer me some suggestions?
