My Solara Woes

My Solara Woes

Postby scottct1 » Thu Oct 19, 2006 7:06 pm

I can't believe the luck I have had with my Solara. I have an 07 converti ble SLE. My car has been at the dealer already over 30 days due to different mechanical problems, meanwhile, they give me a Yaris to drive. Gives a new meaning to "Oh what a feeling"
Today, I went to work and someone HIT MY CAR!
Guess I get to go back to driving a Yaris....

SIGH

When the car was delivered to me, the Speedometer, Odometer, Dash Lights, Etc, did not work. So, I picked it up on a Saturday, and brought it back to the dealer on Monday, picked it up again the following Saturday.
When I picked it up again, the dash lights, speedometer etc were working, however, the car had a loud clunking when I turned left. So, back to the dealer on Monday... Guess when I picked it up? Yep. Saturday. I asked the dealer if they were giving me weekend visitation like I had with my kids... So, I get the car back and the noise is still in the suspension when turning left, there is a big paint chip in my hood, the satellite radio I paid $600 for has crappy reception (because they don't know how to install it apparantly), and they installed my sirius antenna in the wrong place. It was supposed to be window mounted, but they installed in on the trunk. There is a picture of it here somewhere. At this point, I am dealing strictly with the service manager as I want to make sure they understand what the issues are and that they are addressed. I was very unhappy to have to bring the car back with the same problem (the noise in the wheel) and have it not be addressed. I bring the car back to the dealer, and I tell them specifically as the antenna was double sided tape stuck to my trunk to be sure to remove any and all residue of the antenna on the trunk... Guess what they didn't do??? So I pick the car up, more white flecks on the hood, and tape all over the trunk. I am so aggrevated, I just take the car and the Service manager promises to fully detail my car for me at the next oil change. I am satisified with this and drive off the lot. This time I am able to keep my car 5 days without an issue... Then the Airbag light comes on. Back to the dealer. They had the car for 19 days... I have the car back for 3 days and a jerk backs into the car... That is my saga. I have escalated the mechanical issues with Toyota and have the area reps number. They have offered me a free extended warranty, I don't typically keep my cars more than a couple of years so that offers me ZERO value, and they also said they would compensate me monterarily for my issues. Yeah the check is in the mail... Guess I will see how this turns out.

Thanks for listening! It's good to vent sometimes!

All that being said, I love my Solara, but I just wish I could drive it!

Wow, just read this. I remember your antenna issues, but didn't realize that you were have o many more.

Any resolution? Honestly, I'd ask them to give you a new car or you'll sue them. It does sound like you got one of the lemons out there. Every manufacturer makes them...

We can't even get the Toyota Area rep to call us back.

We went to the dealer and told them we were thinking about Lemon Lawing it and told them we talked to a lawyer and they basically tried throwing us off the property.

I may post the dealers name here soon if we do not hear from the Toyota Rep soon.

I would stop the insanity right now, and proceed with the lemon law. Especially since they are giving you a hard time about a car you have barely had long enough to drive.

My dealer lied to me about something as simple as a tire rotation and said I shouldn't bring the car back to their dealer for service (of course, I had already decided that). I can only imagine a Toyota dealer's reaction when someone mentions lemon law. God knows Toyota isn't about customer service.
Moved on to better things...

The Toyota Rep for our region (Region 4) whos name is Scott Reid has not been able to do anything for us so far.

So far hes offered an extended waranty (useless as I dont keep a car for more then 2 years)
And Free Lifetime Oil Changes (also useless since I was given that by the deal when I purchased the car, as it was a promotion they were running)

I am still not happy, and am now more then ever considering Lemon Lawing it. The sad part is I love this car. (BTW I got the title to the car in the mail today) Yet appears that Toyota can not do anything to make up for the fact that my new car was in the shop for over 40 days due to problems with the car, and more importantly incompidence at the dealership.

the solara is a great way to drive. i dont think the ppl working on your car are working up to their potential.

i stay away from dealerships now. i just make buddies with local mechanics.
