2007 tail lights

Postby linmk2 » Sat Jul 01, 2006 2:20 pm

I'm not sure how it would be done on the 2007 lamps, but the solution could be something Cadillac did in the early sixty's and later in the more recent Fleetwood models. These cars had a clear rear lens. The lens contain two sets of bulbs. One was a tail light, stop/turn signal light which was mounted in such a way that the bulb was placed in a red filter like globe. The other bulb was mounted sans the globe. That was the back up light. If these new 2007 tail lights could be taken apart, (doubtful), then the amber lens could be removed. I would guess it would have to be cut out. A long, oval tube of sorts could be fabricated to be inserted where the current amber len is with some sort of clear lens in place of the amber one. The tube would be drilled out in such as way that a lamp socket with an amber colored bulb could be fitted. That would be the turn signal. Another section could be drilled out and a socket with clear bulb attached. That would be the back up light. One hole, two different lights. Just like the Cadillacs of yore. Of course the Cadillacs used prisums to make the light brighter. I'm not sure how that could be done on our "engineered" light. Anyway, just a thought. I'm not sure the unit could be taked apart without breaking it. Another issue on the 2007 lamp is the wiring. Being an LED display, there has got to be electronics somewhere. Are they in the unit or somewhere in the car's wiring? I think the switch is not going to be a piece of cake.

Jeez! Why don't you guys just go buy an 07 and switch out the bumpers. That seems a whole lot easier.

Cos the new bumpers with the detached reverse lights look boo-tay.

i just saw the 07 for the first time
i love the tailites and the headlites but i dont like either bumper
the front bumper with the change in the foglite mounting looks like the accord or something and the shorter space between the foglites ruin the lower hole (where the lower grill goes)
if the tailites fit i think we could mount back up lites somewhere else in the bumper

I must be the ONLY one that does not like the LED tails. I'm sure there is different wiring for the LED's, since they would use a different amount of power than a standard bulb would use. Kudos to someone who tries it, but I dont like them enough to try it out.

I have a question about this...and I could not be understanding because I live in Florida and we don't have any type of inspections. I have heard some of you mention inspections.

If you were to swap these, what are the chances that a cop would see that you have no reverse lights? I mean, when is the last time you backed up in front of a cop?

So, that said, can't you jsut swap them and forget about the reverse lights?

I guess if you need to have your car inspected yearly, that could be a problem...

conserning the wiring.. my buddy has a 2002 S2k and he had halogen tail lite bulbs... he swap the taillites to the newer ones which are LEDs.. the wiring was the same xcept for switching the backups and the turn signals due to positioning of the lites...

about the backup lites... i had blue LEDs in the backups for about a year.. i never got caught by a cop...

I wouldnt be afraid of being pulled over.

I would be afraid of getting rear-ended when im backing up. You would be screwed then, even if it was the other person's fault.

That's assuming you're in the street backing up. In a parking lot it doesn't matter who's fault it is as long as it's not intentional.

So if they call the police to file a report and state that you have no reverse lights, you wouldn't be cited? Sounds risky.

I think the short answer is always going to be "No, they dont fit" due to the reverse lights. Until someone actually tries it, we wont know.

But like someone else said, I doubt they made changes to the sheet metal on the car, just the plastic bumpers.
