Now think about it, why would someone put a Tacoma rear end on a Solara? Would you want drum brakes and leaf springs for your rear? Your ex-roommate sounds like he's blowing alot of smoke.

in his defense, he lives a few blocks from there and, occassionally, sees a solara peel out. And it's the rear wheels that are creating the 'smoke' not the front... the only thing you can really do is call and ask if you are really interested i guess...

Just because it is converted to rear wheel drive does not mean it has to use drums and leaf springs in the rear. The Tacoma block is 3.4L
(More displacement), Stronger Block, the Solara is lighter than the Tacoma, and the 3.4L block has more Torque. Best of all there is a turbo kit available for it. Wow you boys must not get out much huh?????

I do know the 5VZ-FE 3.4L is an iron block...but it is expensive to fabricate new mounts to fit and of course fit a new rear end into the rear of a Solara. If you say you don't have to use rear leaf springs and such...which rear end do you suggest that will work with the Camry chassis? Remember, the Tacoma is a body on frame...where as the Camry/Solara is a unibody design. I have to see it to believe it so I will give this place a visit when i'm in the East Bay in a couple weeks. :)

I know how hard it is to fabricate parts for the Camry chassis...it's not easy nor is it cheap. I should know, one of my friends paid out a lot of cash to make a 3S-GTE fit onto his SXV10 Gen3 Camry chassis. Custom engine mounts and wiring harnesses are not cheap at all. Many of us get out much, but because many of us have professions to deal with 5 days a week unlike some people, we can only get out so much with the limited time we have. ;) Just some food for though for ya.

BTW, the curb weight of a Solara is about on par with a Tacoma S-Runner. So wherever you're getting your figures...you're wrong. ;) Also where is this turbo kit for the 5VZ? I know there's a TRD S/C for it...and also an S/C for the 2RZ/3RZ 4cyl. Also a Turbo kit for that same RZ block by EL Prototypes. :)

Oh also...It's CAMRY not Camery. :P

Now I could be horribly mistaken, but wouldn't it make a hell of a lot more sense to turn it rear wheel drive using the parts from a Lexus SC400? That is about the closest match to a Solara any car will give. And even use the engine, but that wouldn't be the best idea probably due to lower gas mileage and the horsepower and torque ratings not being much higher.

I guess I didn't make the first post clear, so everyone got a different interpretation of it

I've heard they do Tacoma engine swaps

I've heard they do RWD conversions

but I have no idea what trans they change to for the converion and how they handle the Tacoma swap. They were 2 separate jobs that this place does that, I guess, almost everyone mistook as being a single job package :D
