Aftermarkt intakes and dealership

Aftermarkt intakes and dealership

I'm thinking about adding an InJen or CP-E system to my car. Is it best to remove it and put back the OEM air box when I take the car in for service at the dealer?

I have the CP-e intake and there's no way I plan to remove the thing just for dealership services... Esp having to solder those wires behind the glove box (I don't really want to go through that again)... I know pretty much everyone at my dealership, and I actually took my car back there the other day just to show it off with the Intake in there (they have me drive around at events of theirs to get attention so they know everything that's been done to my car)... Whenever I take it in for service, they never give me any problem.

It depends what you're having done. If you're having something done under warranty that involves the engine/drivetrain in any way shape or form, you definitely want to take it off, they could always blame whatever it is on your intake.

That being said, get the CPE intake, it ownz. And I don't think you'll have to bother with wiring and crap, you might runa little funny, but it should be fine, nothing that will hurt the car in between taking it in and bringing it home. Just hide the wiring behind the glvoebox and they'll never know about that. As for the intake itself, just make sure you have extra hoses for anything you had to snip because it was too long during the install.

If the intake is noted in the system, don't bother taking it off if you do have a drivetrain problem. ^_^

Depending on how "cool" the service writer is, it may or may not be noted.

What solder? I hope you didn't solder that stuff. The clamp-ons work great and then you can just deal w/ blade connections forever more.

Anyway... I do the domino method. My service guys were digging it. I reverted when I went in for the ECU flash, but left it for everything else this year. If you do the install with reverting in mind (tag hoses, tie off a couple things instead of removing, take a couple stock pics) then it's a 15 min. job for either intake.

For the cp-e customizer box, you just bypass it by reconnecting one wire. Other than that, you leave it tucked in the glove box. I don't recommend running with the stock airbox and customizer hooked up. You'll be way rich. And most impportantly, NEVER run the 3.5" pipe without the customizer. You'll burn up running way lean.

I've really been itching to pick up an intake (Injen probably because cp-e is WAAY out of my budget) but I'm concerned as well to how it will affect my warranty. They probably already noted the stereo system so I might as well?

I found this on InJen's site...Seems like their product is priced right.

"Will adding after market products void my warranty?
The Magnusson-Moss Warranty - Federal Trade Commission Improvement Act of 1975 protects consumers from such fradulent activity by new car dealers. Under this Act, aftermarket equipment that improves performance does not void a vehicle manufacturer's orginial warranty, unless the warranty clearly states the addition of aftermarket equipment automatically voids your vehicle's warrany or if it can be proven that the aftermarket device is the direct cause of the failure. The easiest way to check this is to look in your owner's manual under, "what is not covered". Under Magnusson-Moss Act a dealer must prove, not just vocalize, that aftermarket equipment caused the need for repairs before they can deny warranty coverage. If they cannot prove such claim-or offer an explanation- it is your legal right to demand compliance with the warranty. The Federal Trade Commission (202.326.3128) administers the Magnusson-Moss Act and monitors compliance with warranty law."

magnusson moss...

there are ways that the dealer get around this.

but then all you have to do is go to a different dealership.

you should be fine with the intake though, but a lot depends on where you take it.

Any ideas how dealers can around it, or would it be too much headache for them to go thru with it?

I have had no issues with my Injen intake from any of the local dealerships I've been to. I have great respect for both company that developed these intakes for our cars!!!

Good luck,
Michael

Thanks everybody.
I'm trying to stretch my mod dollars so I'm gonna go with the InJen system and try to get a TRD muffler soon after.
