For those of you who've purchased a gen2 solara, would you please give me some advice for getting the best price on the vehicle I want. Advice such as knowing the invoice before going to the dealer...etc. I mean what do you guys say or do at the dealer to get a fair, decent price? Thanks in advance for the response(s) guys. :D

went through carsdirect.com and edmunds.com (ask the dealers to contact you)... didn't even need to negotiate because the price was so low... (other dealerships wouldn't even match)

The Internet is the only way and have the Internet Sales Managers

fight each other for your business. In South Florida the Internet Sales

Manager is the one with the high sales at most of the Dealerships.

While the guy that everyone loves to hate the Salesmen hang

around outside the doors taking to each other. Some Toyota Dealers now

do most of their Business over the internet.

First off, if you can find an 04 get that cause at this point the dealer will pretty much pay you to take one. If you don't go through the internet you just gotta work em. Every invoice is different and at most places if you're not a manager you never see the actual invoice. The dealership where I work is pretty lax so I know that on a Hyundai Santa Fe for example invoice cost is about $1000 less than MSRP there's not alot of markup on hyundais, but you also have to remember there is a dealer hold back a tiny little number in the corner of the invoice that's usually 500-1000 dollars, you can take that from em too if you work em hard enough, then there's the dealer cash that the dealership gets when they sell so many units, for example when my dealership sells 30 sonatas we get an extra 500 per copy 70 and we get 1000 so there's definately more money in there than "invoice cost" if the dealership sells you a car at invoice they're still makin some money off ya... And also if you opt to buy anything in finance NEGOTIATE THAT TOO! that's where I made my mistake, I paid 2000 for an extended warranty I could have gotten for 800, and I paid 600 for my gap insurance that I could've gotten for 180 dollars... So in short JUST GRIND ON EM start really low, then they'll come back with a counter offer, then you have to counter it again, and so on till you get what you want... Try not to worry about getting the best deal, and figure out what you can afford before hand, find a car that you love, then try to make everything make sense for you! who cares if they make a little profit... just remember that there's always gonna be a better deal out there somewhere, what's important is that you are happy with your purchase.

go to Toyota.com and build your Solara.

After that, contact each of those dealer's internet sales departments as stated. Then see who has the best price.

If it's still too high (over invoice) then you want to go to the dealer and talk business. Waste A LOT of the salesman's time and they will be throwing offers at you!

I went in for an 05 Avalon... 32000 + tax = about 35000

It's the hot car right now, so you pretty much have to pay sticker. I wasted so much of the guy's time that he got it to 32000 out the door. After that, I told him I wanted to think about it... he knows if people think things through, they may NOT purchase the car. Most people buy cars on impulse (certain models) when they just happen to think they came across a good deal. Since I told him I wanted to think about it, he offered it for 31000... then he even went to 30000.... on a car that shouldn't be bargained yet (well, maybe now... but definately not last month)

So ya... use the internet first and then waste a saleman's time AT THE END OF THE MONTH (they really do have quotas to meet... otherwise after X months of not meeting it, they get canned or some other crap)
1GR-FE ftw!

CarMax

I got mine at CarMax Toyota in Laurel MD. It was $800.00 below invoice. I did the research. Do a search at www.carmax.com for the best price. Choose New Cars, Toyota, Solara, and Laurel Toyota.

Anywho, yeah, the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas is called Death Valley in the car trade. I used to sell cars. If you're getting one now, get it at the end of the month since that is when sales people are trying to get their monthly incentives. Sometimes they need just one more car to get the bonus. Look for a sales counter in the showroom (some have them, some don't), and try to get the salesman with the lowest sales for the month.
