the stock factory alarm?

the stock factory alarm?

Postby qhoc0010 » Mon Mar 21, 2005 2:25 pm

I wonder if the stock factory alarm actually works? How could it prevent from breaking in? Because I tested it by trying to breaking my car (unsuccessful though) and nothing sounds off. So how does it work???

1. open your windows
2. (being outside the car) arm your car
3. (wait 30 seconds) and then reach in thru the open window and open the locks from inside the car...
4. Turn off alarm (note if alarm didn't go off....your SOL!).

How did you go about this break-in test? If you pounded your windshield, nothings gonna happen because the stock alarm does not have a shock sensor. However, Toyota does have an add-on for the car.

Why not just get an aftermarket alarm? Remote start, both windows auto up and down, starter kill, two way paging, etc.

^^^As for testing the alarm, do what Jai said.^^^

Just arm your car with the windows down and wait and reach inside the car and manually unlock and your horn should go off....quite annoying.

Here was my problem... like a month after i got my solara...i noticed that when i armed the car from the inside and opened it to test it....nothing happend. I went to the dealer and asked them why there was no alarm...or any sound...they took it in and fixed it. Now when i open the door from the inside when it is armed...the car honks like crazy like pressing the panic button. Similar thing happend to my friend with a 2005 camry...he got his fixed also.

Suggestion: you should always wait 30 seconds after arming to test any alarm.
Question: So before you alarm wasn't working and not it is...from what you describe...why would you arm from inside the car, no one is going to steal you??

factory alarm = no alarm......because you gotta bang really really hard to make it go off....and in most case, it doesn't go off. You should get a aftermarket one like viper, clifford ...etc

The Solara alarm doesn't come stock with shock sensory.

Shock (aka glass breakage sensor) is not included in the factory alarm. I loved my celica AF alarm...i had a dual zone sensor (aka perimeter sensor)..if someone just came close to the windows to say see my stereo setup from the glass..the alarm started...that was bad a$$. annoying for some, but still i loved it...

Lets not forget you cant start the car (unless you can hotwire) without it's key. You know, the key with the built in chip. I tried using a plastic key that AAA gave me kind of as a spare and it didnt work. That'd be the last lline of defense, especially if you dont have LO/JACK

I assumed the plastic key is for opening doors only (if you lock your keys inside the car).

Can after market systems bypass the key chip thing for remote starting?
