S/C Idler Plate Assy Cracked....

S/C Idler Plate Assy Cracked....

Postby scdsolara619 » Mon Jan 28, 2008 12:32 pm

Well, I pulled the idler assy off this weekend to replace the belt & tensioner and found the plate that mounts the tensioner is cracked. Of course that item has been discontinued according to TRD and Toyota so I have to have a local machine shop fabricate that plate. I guess from all the vibration from the tensioner it finally started to crack and is getting worse. Has anyone else had this happen? Thanks in advance.

Well the way it's cracked I don't want to take any chances, plus I'll have them cut it out of stronger and less flexing material. In my opinion the way that tensioner is bolted to "1" plate that actually flexes is a bad design, but I'm not about to go reinventing the wheel.

Dawgz said someone was gonna do this in the future, but you may find yourself in a lucrative position. I was about to buy a S/C but it didnt have the idler assembly. Make a few & sell them!

I used to have the free Imagestation account but they are closing now, can't really find any other sites like that, unless someone can tell me, then I can upload the pics and post them, unless there is another way to do it. Thank you.

Look by the alternator bolt (very top hole)---(about 4" long crack, both sides)

While your situation is too far gone, If I had a S/C I would immediately inspect this area for cracks, and if I found one that was reasonable (1" or less in length?) I'd stop drill it and put it on my inspection checklist.
