IF I CRISPSOLD the car...

IF I CRISPSOLD the car...

Postby crispone » Fri Oct 23, 2009 3:40 pm

Well... another post got me wondering what my car would bring if I sold it here sometime... (NOT that I'm looking to, mind you... but you never know...)

I LOVE the car, and it's been ABSOLUTELY PERFECT since I bought it! ZERO issues after I fixed the slight drift left early on... and COMPLETELY dry underneath (NO leaks or sweats) and runs SUPER! Fresh (BETTER than stock) brakes, timing belt, serviced, etc... and a bunch of mods that I think are fairly tasteful. ONLY a bit of fade on the driver seat cushion bolster from the occasional bit of rain sprinkle when getting in and out and the usual bit of small nicks and such on the hood/front bumper from "sand and debris" from driving... but otherwise, the car is really good, NO dings, scratches, damage, etc... Sport V6 SE w/major stereo "stuff" (CRANKS! See thread...) with CP-e (tuneable) and the other usual suspension/drop/exhaust/strut/rsb/etc...

Currently at 100k and change running synthetic on premium rubber shod OZ's. Car would be sold "AS IS" with all mods/stereo etc... probably nearly $5k to do the same stereo if not more.

Any thoughts out there?

ONLY reason I would consider is... as much as I am NOT a major fan of Hondas per say... I have a crack at an off-lease corporate car (my boss, the president of my company) is about to "unload" and it's an '07 Acura TL Type-S w/Carbon Bronze rims, Carbon Fiber interior trim, and JUST had $4k service done --> rubber, tune, brakes, everything by company and it has somewhere around 60~70k on it. It's Metallic Gunmetal color and runs like a raped ape... with navi, of course. (I could get it for a SINFUL deal if I want it... but don't need BOTH cars...)

hmmm... what to do...

Opinions?

I know you want to get that Acura but if your Solara is not giving you problems and you love it, then why would you even think about this?

Don't sell the Solara and keep driving it, thats my 2cents.

Don't get that Acura, you already got a kick ass Supra to have fun with.

Yeah, I understand your thoughts completely! (Even agree, for the most part...)

Considerations are:

Acura = FOUR door (I have 4 kids... and my wife hates the coupe...)
Acura = 40~50k less mileage and 3 years newer
Acura = UNBELIEVABLE price if I were to buy it
Acura = MORE HP and better Traction Control for winter... (wife again)
Acura = Navi (WIFE!)
Acura = S-TYPE! (Suspension, rims, brakes, etc... great!)

...so... there are some considerations there... EVEN though I love my 'lara and don't NEED to sell it... the sedan is a "wiser" choice for me... and besides, I HAVE other toys for "sport"... such as the Supra and Motorcycles... and Toy P/U 4x4... and such... and in a couple years, I'll have my wife's FJ Cruiser to SUPERCHARGE and MOD the heck out of!

Just some thoughts... but appreciate the input!

I didn't notice you wanted to consider the Acura due to it being more practical than the Solara, if that was the case then yeah I would get rid of the Solara and get the TL.

You won't sacrifice much with that Acura, it is a really good performer.

The TL-type S has about 200 whp stock, and it goes 0-60 in about 6.2 seconds.

Yup. The prior president of our company also had the '01 (or '02?) Type-S and later '04 Type-S and I probably put 40k of the miles on the '04 with him or just using his car. I drove the PISS out of that thing and it really did haul some ass! (A LOT of torque steer when pushed... but very pleasing motor and good tranny, too... but the '04's brakes were lame and warped... but the '07 has MUCH better one's on it!)

Anyway... yeah... just thinking... and really curious what mine would even bring in the market. I just haven't looked into it, but thought I'd see what those who have seen it in here or in person might think on mine? (I'm not expecting a "premium" for it... it's just a car... with some good TLC since purchased new.)

I would pull the trigger given the circumstances, but only given the fact that the TL and the running condition sounds great.
On the other hand your lara runs even better, so you do have yourself a dilemma.
Funny, lots of people here seem to always upgrade to Acuras, esp Tsx's or lexus Is. I guess it shows how high y'alls standards are when it comes to choice. :sweet:

Interestingly, at the same time... my INTERIOR fit-n-finish (while not as HIGH a grade in some materials) is BETTER than the fit-n-finish of the Acura TL! (TSX is better than TL... but manufactured in Saitama Honda plant, not Marysville Ohio... and the TSX is superb in fit-n-finish...)

ALSO, my 'lara has LESS wind noise around the windshield than the TL at speed. Very interesting...

If you lived in california I would help you out by purchasing the car from you. Honestly I don't really know what it is worth.

That Acura seems like the way to go. You've already figured out 6 great reasons to get it. If you are getting such a steal of a deal and you find you just aren't digging the Acura a few months down the road you can always dump it for a profit.

Go for the Acura man. One time I drove a friends TL, I loved that car, I can only imagine how much fun a type-s would be.

Chris, 20 years from now, are you going to be talking about the Good Ole' days in the Supra or about the TL?

These are the Good Ole' days. I'd sell the Solara before the Supra. You can pick up another Solara easier than you can in that Supra. After this many years, it's like another one of your kids. You've got to keep it. Even in the face of better faster cars.

:o

I see what happened here! You are thinking I meant SUPRA... for TL! NO TRADE!

TRUST me, the Supra is a KEEPER!

I was considering the Solara for sale... but I have no concrete plans to do so. I could keep it and I'm pretty sure it will DOUBLE it's current mileage (to over 200k) without issue. It's a GREAT CAR!

...I just have to admit that the Acura TL S-Type is more car (than the 'lara)... but you can't even begin to compare with the Supra. Especially THIS Supra!

Next chance, it's coming up that way... BEFORE the winter, hopefully... and you need to take it for a "set-the-course-for-light-speed" WARP RIDE!

Thanks for the sentiments, though! I agree completely!
