Urd o2 sim or Anti-fouler??

Urd o2 sim or Anti-fouler??

Postby sarki » Mon Oct 11, 2010 7:44 pm

Ok help me out guys. I know some of you guys are running the OBX headers with a URD rear o2 sim, and some of you are using the the spark plug anti-fouler. My question is this, Is anyone "better" than the other or does each item do the same thing in a different fashion??

Thanks Sarki.

I do not know if one is better but the anti fouler is only about $5

Yes this is correct, But thats what makes me wonder if buying a URD sim for $80+ dollars is worth it. The $5 Anti-fouler seems too easy. Where are the "brains" of the forum??? I dont know if pulling the sensor back with the anti-fouler is going to interfere with the cars cpu. This is off URD's site.

Note: Be cautious of O2 sims that replace the rear O2 sensor with a falsely gererated signal.

Toyota started using a wideband type O2 sensor (air/fuel ratio) in the front position for better engine control. These wideband type sensors need to be recalibrated from time to time by the ECU. The ECU uses the rear sensors for this recalibration process. The ECU cannot properly recalibrate the wideband sensor using a falsely generated signal. This process is explained here, US Patent 5706654.

Use only a URD O2 Sensor Simulator on these vehicles to avoid poor performance, drivability issues and poor MPG.

^^ Scare tactic?? Come on guys where are the solid and complicated answers that some of you guys like to show off with??

The URD simulator may be nothing more than a 555 timer for 80 bucks. I am running the antifouler and have had no issues for may miles.

Please elaborate. So its just a box that sends a signal to ecu telling it everything is ok?

From: usoff89:
The two O2 sensors on your headers are the one's that adjust your air/fuel mixtures. The one behind your cat just sends a single to the ecu, to tell it whether the cat is working or not. You might want to look into it further, but I got my info from a friend that's a certified tech for Lexus/Toyota.

^^I just wanted to trow this into the post because it might be helpful for the next guy with the same question. Thanks for the info bro.

i have the ant-fouler, but it doesn't work for me.

The problem is:
The first time i installed it, the second fouler pushed the o2 too far up towards the frame. Thus, i didn't want to damage the good stuff, so i only installed one. Weeks later, the o2 sensor turned black and the engine light came back on.
The second time, i did install the second fouler. However, this time the o2 is against the frame. Lets just say, one day i was driving back home with some friends and the car was too low going over the bumps. The bumps caught the bottom of my car and the engine died.
FYI: running on tokico blues and teins. Plus, i had like 4 friends in the car, i couldn't have made it over the bump.

The solutioin is:
The 15 amp fuse that controls the EFI(Electronic Fuel Ignition-i think) system of the car that sends signal to the ECU is powered by the O2 sensor after the cat. Thus, when i hit the bumps, I believe it pushed the exhaust up causing the O2 sensor to hit up against the frame and cut power to the car. As a result, the 15 amp fuse blow and the car went with it. FYI: I hit the bumps again after that time, and my car died again.

The idea for me is:
Go to the muffler shop.
Cut and paste the O2 sensor with the anit-fouler to the side
Take the O2 sensor out and clean it.
Try not to carry so much friends around.

FYI: If anyone knows the dude that is having problems with his 15 amp fuse(EFI) blowing, here is my answer.

Yea all the sim does is send a square wave into the ecm

Here is a link from a supra forum on how to build your own. Someone here did it and it worked there is a thread you can search for

http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/oxygen ... simulator/

Also here is a 90 degree o2 anti fouler I think OBX makes one as well
