Clunk From TRD RSB, Gen 1

Postby 99BlackSandv6 » Tue Aug 11, 2009 11:42 pm

I have the TRD RSB installed on my Gen 1, and I have it set to the stiffest setting. I have a pretty nasty clunk all the time now, and can't figure a way to prevent it. The RSB is hitting the inner mounts for the suspension arms, if you are familiar with it I am talking about the two big washers toward the center of the car, directly below the sway bar. If the car were lowered I have a feeling the noise would stop, but I am still working on the funds for that. The noise happens when the suspension extends not when it compresses.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,

Ben

I hate suspension noise... :(

Have you checked the bushin' mounts if they are torqued down tight.
Check the end links also.

If those are not loose.
It could be your strut mount maybe.

i second checking the sway bar end links for play... if not it maybe time to finish saving for some suspension parts.

by the way, do you have a subwoofer box in the trunk?

Thanks for the responses. I have the original struts and mounts, 114,000 miles.
I don't think the sound is from the struts, and I checked the end links. Also the bushing mounts are tight. The same sort of sound was going on a while back and it was the end link, but not this time.

I think my best option is to replace the struts and springs from the mounts down. I have been looking into Eibach & Tokico. Only thing is, I don't know where to buy the mounts, I know Tokico makes them but can't find 'em online.

Thanks,

Ben

PS

I don't have subs.

that is the same sound I have, but mine also make a similar sound in the front, I will check this weekend for all the things posted here when I put the springs on the car.

You can just use the strut mounts from AutoZone or Advance Auto Parts.

Same problem. I have had my rsb for maybe two years now without a problem. Last week it developed a horrible clunk! I changed the setting from track to street. That seems to have fixed it. But I am annoyed now...

Are you sure the bolts weren't loose before you changed the setting to street?

I had a loud clunk and it was because the bolts holding the endlink to the strut was loose.
