Getting tint next week... recommendations?

Getting tint next week... recommendations?

Postby mightymouse402 » Sun Jul 26, 2009 9:04 pm

Hello all!

I am going to get my car tinted next week. I was wondering if you guys had any recommendations on how dark or how light I should go.

For the 3 rear windows, I want it to be dark enough where people can't see inside, but I still want to be able to see at night checking my blind spot and what not. I also do not want to get pulled over.

I also am going to do the two front windows, I want it to be lighter than the back three windows of course, and I don't want it to be so light that it doesn't even look tinted, and again I emphasize I do not want it to be so dark that I get pulled over.

The So-Cal SGers will probably have the best insight on this, but any insight is welcome.

Any helpful responses are appreciated. Thanks! :D

If I were to tint my car, I would go for 50% all around, but thats lighter than most people want it. You should probably go with 20% out back and 35% in front, have the guy do the quarter windows first and then decide if you want 20 or 35 on the back glass. It wont be so dark that you'll get pulled over, if you leave your fronts at no darker than 35%. Post pics when you get it done.
Trust me, I'm a technician.

I have 20% all around. Some places at night if their are no lights i gotta put down my window to see when I'm backing into a spot. I have the same color as you. I did 35% front n 20% rear. Just make sure what is legal where ever you are. 20% in front isn't legal here in Canada but the Cops don't bother solara's :P there are too many rice rockets for them to chase :D lol if you want take a look at my car to give you an idea of what 20% looks like.

Hey man, Ive had my tint done a few times now and to be honest the best way to go is to get 20% all the way around. IMO running a darker set out back and lighter up front doesnt look the greatest. Check out your state laws on legal tint and just either run legal amounts all the way around or run 20% all the way. I have 20% all the way around with a 6" strip on the front window and I love it. Def illegal but I love it.

Make sure you get a good shop to do your tint. A charcoal based tint is the best looking, with a blue or green based tint being the worst tint available. If you want, try and use a mobile tint service from your area because these groups could do a legal tint all the way around but be able to tint your front window slightly, say 80%, which will darken your entire interior enough to compensate for the lighter tint on the sides and back.

IMO the best lookin cars either have 20% all the way or legal with a slight tint on the front window. All ideas are def illegal yet my favorite. Just adding my 2 cents, hopefully it helps

30% on the sides only. i speed alot and tint messes with radar coverage, so i left the front and back undone.

I've had a full 20% on all of my cars, including the solara. The older I get, the more tacky I think it looks b/c it's so dark. I'm also not a big fan of doing the front and rear windows different percentages (which I've also had). I'm going to redo the tint on my solara soon to be 35% all around.

the dots inside the rear winshield top edge..will create bubbles, that have to be scraped off...i didnt wanna pay for it but i dont think its that noticable..im not gonna submit mire ride to any car show anyways..

i have 5% allaround, and i do have to scan for cops all the time...but i luv the sun protection car stay really cool w a/c.

i had two tone and lighter on the fronts( 35%) and still gort a fix it ticket for 30 bucks.. had to remove the tint i was paranoid for a while but

but "once you go limo black you always go back"

as long as youre not a reckless driver ,drinking n driving or carrying weed most cool cops wont care that much.. if hes cool and youre not anoying they will let you go witha warning...(they have tints too)*( my roomate is LAPD, and my cousin is Sheriffs)

I would do %20-%35 on all sides and a 5% on the rear.

20 on a sunny day will be pretty hard to see through, you will see minor silhouetting (outlines of ppl or the seats in your car).

35 is a bit more transparent and you will see silhouetting and may see very minimal details like faces. But it is definitely dark still and hard to see in. You would really hafta look close to see inside. I prefer this look.

%50 you will be able to see everything inside but will just look slightly shaded.

I would highly suggest (like everyone else) keeping all side windows the same tint % or else it looks tacky. if you don't wanna get pulled over do %50. If you are going to do it illegal you will get stopped just as much for any % percent under %50. Cops can tell. It's not going to help to do 35 rather than 20.

Definitely do a tint banner/strip on the windshield. I would say use whatever tint is being used for the rear window...prolly %5. This will block the sun when it is setting but not block your view of the road like your sun visors will. Keeps your full viewing range open, just tinted.

if you are wanting to actually be legal, remember that the toyota factory glass comes polarized at about 3%.

so if you really want to be legal (according to the cop's little tint-measuring instruments), you would want to get the tint about 4% or 5% lighter than recommended by law.

but if you just want to look legal enough, check your local laws, and just get the lowest legal %.

Ive never been pulled for tints rollin 35%
My homeboy thats rockin 20% on his volvo was pulled for tints
My other homeboy thats rockin 10% all around just drives with this front windows down so he DOESNT get pulled for tints.... defeating the purpose of tinting his front windows.
