I cant find any cai extentions still available. I have the injen sri and i am thinking of making one myself but first i want to hear from people who have added this i want to know if it will be worth all the hard work so if anyone has input regarding their CAI extention compaired to just the SRI please help me make a decision thanks.

Find decent 2.75" piping with an elbow/angle, much like the extension pictured here:

As an owner of the UPFD extension, I'll give my $0.02. I'd had the Injen SRI unit on my for ~6 years prior to having the extension. The overall temperature of the incoming air is definitely improved, seeing as it's being sourced from down low near the grill/fender as opposed to inside the engine compartment. The car definitely feels more lively (even moreso than w/SRI). I obviously can't vouch for HP numbers, since this has all been from my butt dyno. There are those here on SG who shun this combo for the CP-E unit, but I feel that this is comparable to, if not better than, the non-tunable. Sure the CP-E has bigger piping/filter, but it doesn't help too much since it's still cramming air into a throttle body that's still smaller in diameter. i am more than happy with my CAI, now I just have to get a new filter (Injen one is clean, but old).

As an owner of both I found that there is no comparison between CPE and the CAI. CPE wins hands down.

^I figured you'd be the one to step in Midias. However, I did state that I felt the way I do about the CAI in comparison to the non-tunable. Yours, if memory serves me correctly, is the tunable w/the black box correct? That would definitely be the difference maker.

They all have the black box with a baseline tune for the CPE I have the non tunable so I cannot change my curve from the new tune they created.

Also going from a large pipe to a small throttlebody should increase intake velocity a little.

^I see, good stuff. I guess I also neglected to mention to the OP/others that I also have an S-AFC II installed, which may be something those who want to re-tune air/fuel curves w/out a CP-E should always look into.

EDIT:Also, being a fellow ProFlow owner, did you feel that the car re-adjusted itself (after your idle issue) to the point that the car, throtle response and all, went from feeling responsive back to just how it was prior to installation?

Injen ram intake 2000 Solara

Postby Darkskypoet » Fri Apr 17, 2009 3:52 am

Hi there.. I am very, very new here... And I think this would be a good thread to ask my question. I am wanting to change out the stock air box for an intake. I live up in Canada, and so far its been a PIA to find much of anything for performance parts for my Solara. In fact, i just finished changing the Ypipe to cat assembly, and that in itself was a headache and a half calling suppliers to find someone with something other then OE. turns out i couldn't as the Magnaflow part was for M/T, and I am running the V6 with an A/T. Sigh.

to my Question:

Air Intakes; so far i can only find the Injen Short Ram intake. Is this worth it? Silly way to phrase the question, but i can get it for about $330 CDN shipped, and I think that it would be a good addition, but not to sure. I noticed it wasn't on the list provided a few posts up, and I could not find the HKS intake referred to there. HKS didn't list it on their site.

Should i go with the Injen? the CPE is just way out of my price range, as I am sure it would be in excess of $600 CDN.

Thanks

Ok. Good. Thanks for the input :) I bet you all are gonna laugh, but I just got my 2000 Solara and she's got over 310000km on her right now. You knwo what though, I had to do Front Windshield, the Ypipe-->Cat (unrepairable crack, and the front brakes... And she drives like a dream. It's amazing for such a high mileage car.

I am looking to do lights (lenses are pitted and yellowed), the Short Ram Injen Intake, and Cat-back kit (when my bank balance recovers). But all in all, I am just really pleased with how well it drives, and the power still left in that engine.

I am just having a hard time finding a lot of aftermarket parts for solaras. I would have figured there would be more.

Thanks again for your answer.
