Bottom Out

Bottom Out

Postby jdt.solara » Tue Feb 05, 2008 7:07 pm

I have bottomed out in my car more than once and I am not even going that fast over a little bump hill. My car is not lowered and it has a brand new strut. Is it just a soft suspension? What could I do to maybe give it a stiffer feel? I am new at this BTW

Thats weird, I am lowered with kit and I have yet to bottom out, probably because now I drive like a granny sometimes.
Maybe you have rice bounce.. haha :D jp man. thats weird if your suspension is all stock.. if you want the stiffest feel, get coilovers, they are a lot more pricey than regular aftermarket spring/struts because they are so much more versatile .. adjustable and whatnot.. or if you dont wanna spend the cash on those since they are roughly 1200 bucks minimum, get at least some decent ones like tein springs tokico strut combo or something like that.
Good luck in your search and welcome to solaraguy.

what exactly do you mean by bottoming out? like the suspension is hitting the bump stops or the frame rails are scraping the ground?

the bottom of the frame is hitting the ground if I go too fast over a hill type deal. Maybe I just need to replace the shocks because they may be in bad shape? I will have it checked out, thanks for your input

How fast was your car going for you to say 'not that fast'? And how big is this bump?

You have to be going pretty fast to bottom out a stock suspension that fast. If its a speed bump then yeahhhh your going too fast.

check your springs to see if its sagging. You say you have new struts? what kind? pictures of this car?

I say this because you made a post of how fast you top out your car.. Sooo you must be a speed friek. After reading that your not that fast could be too fast for a solara

You have to be doing something wrong if your chassis is hitting the ground in normal driving and on hills... post up some pics and info about your suspension so we can better help you to figure this out...

Well, like somewhat downhill, goin about 40 and hit a little hill kinda, got no air or anything, just lifted a tad then bottomed out. If you don't believe that my car went that fast I have a pic of the speedometer att he speed, oh how fun it was. I suggest EVERYONE get a Radar detector.

I sold my radar detector a few days ago. The X50 too.. After awhile I just learn to use my eyes without one.

If your going downhill at 40 mph and hit an upward force. Thats like 2 to 3 times the force is exerted onto the springs. You bottom out is a for sure. Not even a full race car and take something like that. Not even a F1 car. Thats if the conditions are right.

it wasn't a downhill into a strait uphill, it was somewhat downhil and then like evening out almost, with a little soft ripple thing... Well I don't, it's ok.
