anyone contemplated putting this motor in a camry/solara? 3.5L found in avalon, sienna, etc. VERY peppy in the avalon... i'm thinking i wouldn't mind one in the camry if something fatal were to happen to my 1mz...

I was thinkin' about that.....
That would be interestin'.

I was thinkin' if the 3MZ bottom works wit the non-VVTi 1MZ heads, the 3MZ bottom end should work wit the 1MZ heads wit VVTi??

That would be interestin' wit a 3MZ bottom end and 1MZ VVTi heads.

Might be cool, I'd rather have the 1mz/ 3mz though.
Trust me, I'm a technician.

They are ploping them into the MR2 mated to the E153. So yeah, it should Def work out. But still won;t be as simple as dropping it in and driving off.

i figured it wouldn't be a plug n play affair, since all of them will be immobilizer/transponder keys (though that could bring pushbutton start... heh) and none of them are stick.

and we mustn't forget that the 2gr-fe is an interference engine. of course, so is the 3mz...

Seeing a Solara with a 2GR swap would be very unique and expensive.

I didn't know the 2GR was an interference engine, good thing it comes with a timing chain.

Not to mention the oil line recall on the 2GRs.....but they are very quick in the SE camry.

There's no recall, just a TSB for the 05-06 Avalon. But late 09 and 2010 Camry models already have the all-metal pipe instead of the rubber-metal pipe found on 07's to early 09's. I had mine replaced to the all-metal pipe for preventative maintenance before I experienced this oil leak 8)

Long story short if the timing chain were to snap the valve and pistons will crash into each other.
