Hey guys Im purchasing a TRD exhaust and while I was thinking about it I wondered if removing my Cat. Converter would trip any sensors or cause any problems. Does anyone know?

Also: If I can take it off without any problems, whats the value of a Cat. Converter thats been used like that?

You get a CEL if you remove the middle cat (2nd one)? Is there an O2 sensor after that one?

Your not an idoit. It's good you ask these questions. The better educated you are about things, the more you can do with your car.

Everyone starts somewhere.

I take it your not SC'ed.
On a N/A Fuel injected car, you need back pressure for the car to run correctly. With a turbo or a SC set up, you need more of a free flowing exhaust. Especially when making lots of psi. Typically a high flow cat does the trick and most of the time, not throwing a code.

If you want, you can go for a high flow cat but your going to loose alittle power in the low to mid range RPM's due to not having that back pressure.

I doubt with just a TRD muffler you would gain anything by removing the cat. Also it is welded to the Y pipe do you would have to either weld a flange to the Y pipe or weld a straight pipe on. Not really worth the time IMHO.

My reasoning is I know a guy that is gonna install the exhaust for me, and he asked me if I would want him to remove the CC, but to check online to see if anyhtin would become a problem.

I was thinking of just going wit ha straight pipe, but if its not worth it, then ill leave it.

listen to midias and no_escape....you'll probably be introducing a whole new set of repairs/fixes if you remove the cat, whereas if you keep it on, you'll probably keep your low end acceleration, and will pass emissions.

no_escape is right, if you're not running a forced induction setup, then you're just going to be making it louder, and a little bit slower from a stop (since there's no backpressure at low rpm's).

regarding the guy who asked if you want to remove it: he probably just wants to get the cat so that he can recycle it for some money (cat's are wanted due to the rare metals like rhodium used inside) don't do a straight through pipe, unless you want a headache, or unless you plan on going with forced induction.

if you do have him remove you cat, MAKE SURE YOU KEEP IT. Do not let him dispose of it, because that's extra money in his pocket. if you keep it, then you could probably resell it to someone else, who made the mistake of telling his exhaust guy to remove the cat.
