1MZ-FE Twin Plate Clutch?

1MZ-FE Twin Plate Clutch?

Postby hksboost » Sat Apr 05, 2008 2:02 am

Can I use a twin plate clutch for 3SGTE Mr2 in to my 1mz-fe camry since they both have the E153 transmission. Because I searched for a twin plate clutch for 1mz-fe but I did not find one. :(

The problem is that a single plate clutch is no more capable to handle the amount of torque I have so the twin plate clutch is a most to have. What should I do to install the twin plate clutch from 3SGTE Mr2 in to my 1mz camry since the twin plate clutch kit includes the flywheel?

So you advice me to go with SPEC..
If there is no way to install a twin plate then i will go to the best single plate clutch for 1MZ..
So what is the best single plate clutch for 1MZ?

The stage 3 is very popular...I have the spec 2+ with a fidanza flywheel, but you will probably need at least a spec stage 3, maybe even a stage 3+ or 4...but that would severely limit day-to-day drivability.

Here is a handy list of all spec clutches available, sorted by stage. A stage 3+ looks about perfect for ya...

Max tq is 580 I believe this guy is pushing about 500 at the wheels so I am not sure if he rally wants to go that route. But I would call clutch companies they are usually more than willing to beef up a clutch for your application.

If he has 500 at the wheels, then a stage 5 would work fine. Unfortunately, they aren't listed on that site.

I would give horsepowerfreaks a call. They were very helpful when I bought my 2+ from them and very knowledgeable.

Looks like spec makes a stage 5 clutch you may be able to use

Thank you guys, as I can see that stage 3+ capacity is 580, stage 4 capacity is 485 and stage 5 capacity is 685.. So stage 3+ and stage 5 are handling very good capacity of torque but I think that I will go with SPEC stage 5 clutch to be in the safe side..

Let us know how it drives...very curious how that level of clutch will feel in a camry. Good Luck!

I'm pretty happy with my stage3, personally....and the driveability in traffic is a bitch, but do-able

I hate to think how a stage 5 clutch would feel though...lol

There used to be a guy on SolaraGuy that had Clutchmasters.
http://www.clutchmasters.com/

There is also a mechanic in my area that swears by them.
Stage three will be more than enough to accomodate your torque.

Stage 4 and 5 are designed more for track use and would not provide a comfortable ride.
