Only if you mash the gas more but I actually gained mpg while driving normal.

Yeah it definitely depends on your driving style.
The intakes increase the volumetric efficiency of the engine though,
so like Midias said, you can gain mpg.
Trust me, I'm a technician.

even when the air is being drawn in from within the engine bay? i'm guessing the enlarged tube sucking in a lot more air compensates for the warm air?

It'd more efficient still, but you will notice a difference when the intake is hot vs. cold.

I like it better than when I had my CAI. The hear shied helpes some and you can remove the crap in the bumper to make a nice inlet to the outside world.

is it possible to upgrade to the tuneable later down the line? i mean, with a small upgrade, not a system replacement.

i noticed on the CP-e website that the tuneable version is just a few dollars more, which is added upon checkout, and i was thinking it's just a small hardware upgrade.

^No. If it's just a few dollars get the tunable.
Just know that you need someone that knows how to tune it.
Otherwise you can screw stuff up, and it'll turn into a big pain.

You can always reload the stock map into the box The difference between the versions is the black box one had a programming port.
