Intake (stupid mistakes, great cost)

Could you post a pic of what you did? How far up did you modify? I was planning to remove the stock air filter box because it is so large, but I don't want to make the same mistake you did. I was only going to do this from the box forward, leaving all the electronics as is.

I find it strange that the stock ECU can handle the extra air from a supercharger, but not from a home made intake? WTH?

^ I don't think "extra air" was the problem- I think it was probably a lack of air. A lot of engineering goes into both stock and aftermarket stuff like this. I think it's best left to the experts, IMO. Removing your airbox just for the sake of removing it doesn't seem like the best idea.

I'll have to assess this. I don't know if aftermarket intakes will work for me or not. I am actually transplanting the engine into my Corolla, so there is less room in the engine compartment.

At minimum you can just gut the MAF housing out and go custom.

Are you driving yourself into debt through a friend to modify your car? No offense, but that is a horrible decision man.

If I were you, I would post a WTB ad in the FS section here for a stock intake. Lots of people upgrade and I'm sure they have them laying around and would sell them for cheap. Get your car fixed and don't mess around with it until you have the money to do it and you have done the research. Make sure that you understand how to install and purchase the right parts before you do anything else.

I hate to be harsh, but that's my two cents. Modifying a car is primarily about doing your research and having the money to do things right the FIRST time.

hahaha funny thing is, tis the other way around, he owes me around 1k for all the money I give him so its not a problem as him giving me money, problem is whether I am getting my money back or not hahaha
