Car is slower than before. fixing this thursday. HELP

Postby 2Gud2BTru » Mon Nov 07, 2011 3:49 pm

So I have a 2001 SLE coupe with 209*** miles on it and lately it has been feeling slower than what it used to be. This is after i had the CEL come on and my mechanic reset it. The computer said cylinder 1 misfiring. Since then it hasnt come back on (CEL). When he checked out the car, he said the tranny gasket and 2 valves on the engine are tiny leaking. Could the slowness be due to the misfire of cylinder 1?( the original owner replaced 2-5 already. Only 1,6 havent been changed yet. Or could it be due to low tranny fluids? Or the two tiny oil leaks? Please help. I want the power back to normal. and could MPG be affected also? Thanks for helping. Oh and could the problem be that my mom drives a fully converted F-Spot AWD250 and my dad drives a g37s 6speed and thus im used to faster cars? Thanks for any help

how the hell did they do that? you have coils on 2, 4 and 6. 1, 3 and 5 are wires. When was your last tune up?

I dont know. Let me look directly into the book they gave me of their tune ups.
When they did the tune up, it was at 143577 miles. It says right on the reciept from the lexus dealer : "1REPLACE #2-#5 IGNITION COIL--CODES P0300,302,305

sounds like you need some new plugs/wires/ air filter and oil change. Throw in some Techron gas cleaner while your at it. Looks like you have over 60k since your last tune up bro.

Okay, thanks. I got the oil change less than 500 miles ago so i should be good on that. Ill get the plugs and wires replaced and have him check out the air filter. I just put some Pro-Gard fuel injector cleaner in and to me it helped pretty good.

Car is fine now. The tranny gasket was replaced, filled with 9 new quarts of synthetic transmission oil which really helped the slowness of the car. My mechanic said that i had about 3 quarts left in the transmission. He also replaced the air filter. So thanks everyone for your input.
Quick question, why does the gen 1.0 have such small brake pads? i had my rear replaced and they were really small.

Because it's a slow POS that doesn't need large brakes?

haha i guess so. i guess im just used to faster braking. If i put bigger pads on, will it brake faster? or do i need to completely have the entire braking system changed to a bigger brake set? sorry if this question sounds stupid, just wondering. With snow coming soon, i just wanna be safe on the icy roads here in KS.

just do a search for what guys use as far as pads and rotors. EBC is tough as well as some others.

Factory is just fine for snow. Just make sure your pads and rotors are in good shape.
