There should be a box on the left side of the radiator, check what the underside of the cover says, check the one in front of the battery too.

Picture so show you somewhat where the boxes are.

If the coolant temp. sensor is bad it may be telling the ecu that the engine is hot, thus turning your fans on all the time. Check the coolant temp. sensor.
Trust me, I'm a technician.

the temp gauge in the dash reads normally. when its cold reads cold. when hot reads hot. i unplugged the temp sensor on top of the engine by the pcv valve and the check engine light comes on. so i'm guessing thats not the problem.

Probably 2 sensors most cars have a fan temp switch and a gauge temp switch.

Did you check the temp switch on the bottom of the radiator as I suggested on aug19 2009?

Looks like this

yeah. i've gone throuugh the toyota manual and tested the sensors and relays. i think 3 different sensors can trigger the fans. everything tested normal or i'm overlooking something. the only way to shut them off while the ignition is on is to remove a relay.

if you said you checked the sensor, and relays. according to the wiring diagram theres a coolant temp sensor, and water temp switches 1 & 2. I dont have a V6 so i cant really help too much.. but also check for shorts
