Cat converter size question

Cat converter size question

Postby slowhand » Thu May 14, 2009 12:00 pm

Hi all,
I am looking to replace my cat converter with thunderbolt cat converter on ebay.
What size do I have to get for my 2000 I4 Solara?
2, 2.25, 2.5, 3" are the choice

I am looking to replace my flex pipe as well. If anyone knows, can you tell me what size flex pipe do I need to get? Does size really matter for flex pipe if I want to weld it?

I replaced the flex on my wifes car 2.25 was right for her I4. Also thunderbolt cats are not the cleanest but they are cheap. you will most likely have to do the anti fouler mod to keep the CEL off

Yes pipe size does matter unless you want to be filling in gaps with the welder (not always fun without a tig).

Why do you want to replace it?

Thank you for your answer
I don't want to replace them, but I have to. Cat converter is so broken and so rusty. Rusty parts makes lots of squeaking noise everytime I hit even a little bump.

Flex pipe, I need to replace it because my car sounds like a motorcycle. I think is is burnt or ripped.

Looks like my memory sucked for the flex I used a 2 inch ID section. I know for my v6 solara I used a 2.5 inch cat to weld directly to the Y pipe.
