hey guys this is my first post but im in the market for a v6 solara 5 speed. anyway the car im looking at is a 99 v6 5 speed with 86k and i had my mechanic friend check out the car. he says the clutch seems worn because he had to disengage it pretty high. im wondering how the clutch can be bad at 86k is this a common issue with these cars? the first car i looked at had the clutch replaced at 65k. thanks.

I bought my car with 73K miles and the clutch went out at 83K, so it's definitely possible. From what I hear they can last much longer, but it all depends on how the car is driven.

I'm at 84100, my clutch is starting to go.

I'm a different engine and transmission though...

If you really want to see if the clutch is worn or not, just drive it.

Oh that's tough. I've heard that clutches usually last until about 70k in general. But that was years ago when dinosaurs still roamed the earth.

Mine lasted till 120k. Just get on it hard and if you chirp the tires into second gear then its ok!!! If it doesn't its probably slipping a bit and you may get some more millage out of it still.

i bought my solara v6 se 5 speed at 113k miles, at that time, the clutch was hard and disengage high, not sure if it was still OEM clutch, 5 years later, now it is close to 160k miles and the clutch pedal is still hard and disengage high, don't feel like dying yet, knock on wood.
but i guess it depend driver and driving habbit.

Bought mine with 72K and now has 140K but I am S/C'd. It slips a little under boost but I'm trying to make it last as long as I can.

a v6 manual solara is definitly a gamble regarding the clutch. if your mechanic said it seemed worn you might try to use that as a negotiating point. putting a clutch in these cars is a pretty solid task.... unfortunatly theyre not like hondas ha.
