Got yet another CEL today. This has been my experience with my car so far:

-November 2007 - Bought 2001 Toyota Solara SLE V6 with 76000miles. Two previous owners, the last owning the car for 1yr 7months.
-January 2008 - CEL: ABS Sensor replacement, Charcoal Canister Valve
March 2008 - AC had to be Recharged
April 2008 - CEL: Replace gas cap seal
May 2008 - CEL: Traction Control Unit replacement ($600)
July 2008 - CEL: ??? 79500 miles

We've only owned the car for 8 months, and only put 3500 miles on it. How have we had four check engine lights already? I guess I ended up with a lemon. What a crappy excuse for a toyota this has been. I'm fed up with this car, we've only been fixing after fixing this car and the CEL wont stay off.

Don't feel bad. I bought mine in Nov. with 4 CEL's and I'm down to 3. I know what the last 3 are but right now... I'm short on cash.

You did buy a car with almost 100K miles on it, that was 6 years old and had two pervious owners. You have no idea how they treated, drove or maintained the car.

Might not be a Toyota problem, but a previous owner problem.

Sorry you are not happy. If you can, buy new next time. At least then you know how it was treated and have the warranty to cover problems that are manufacturer related. You have no way of knowing now.

Yea man, sorry to hear you're fed up with your Lara. I bought mine stock with a CEL, evap issue, which I found out was common on SG, Code P0446. I just barely replaced the gas cap and reset the CEL today, so hopefully that was it, if not, than I better start saving for that canister :( since the previous owner already did the replacement of the hoses. I still love my Lara :D .

Gas caps tend to age; I replaced mine pretty recently. So far I have done almost $3,500 done in repairs ($1500 of which the first week I got it, but THANK GOD for extended warranty).

Besides Jerry is right; you never know how the previous owner treated it, or better yet, the owner before that. The people that owned it could range from from babying the car to death, fixing everything wrong with it ASAP and even having the mechanic check it before they sell it just because they saw a Lexus they like... All the way to the type that only changes their oil every 20,000 miles and sold it because they found out their engine needs to be rebuilt.

Well thanks for the support. I'm completely tired of it, but I'm still a little hesitant to trade it in. Not really sure what I'm going to do yet.

I bought mine with O2 sensor issues, the dealership paid and replaced so I could pass inspection. I haven't had an issue since.

p0446 yea I had the problem turned out to be the valve on top of the charcoal canister. I drove like that for 3 years because it only came on when it was warm out so I got the car inspected every January.
