200k KM... maintenance ideas?

200k KM... maintenance ideas?

Postby mazen222 » Tue Jun 24, 2008 9:23 am

hello all,

my car will reach the 200 000 km very soon... I'm planning to do major maintenance on it in order to keep it going strong.

Can you give me a list of important stuff that i should change/replace or check? its a 99 manual V6... in very good shape and very powerfull

i got the car 180k and i have no track of the maintenance done before that.

Here's what im thinking of repairing

- Timing belt (replace)
- light skweeking sound when I press on the clutch... it can only be heared if im next to a wall or actually under the car (check)
- all suspension related parts... (check/replace if necessary)
- Transmission... sometimes doesnt go into first gear (check syncro)
- Transmission fluid (should i change it? i heared i should not do a flush if it has never been done before.. so just empty and refill?)
- Gas filter (should that be checked or something?)

Ok i'm not rich... so i will not be able to afford all this... so most probably i will fix the necessary only to keep my car going.

can you give any ideas on what else should i keep my eyes on?

Thanks!

200k = 120miles? if so then...

do what u listed so far...Definitly change the gas filter
run some seafoam. I dont think u have tranny fluid since ur manual, i think u guys use gear oil?

also, flush the coolant system, replace the hoses.

along with ur timing belt change, change the waterpump and all the seals u can replace in that area.

change ur spark plugs, also check the wires...run a bottle of injector cleaner in ur fuel tank.

I had my car at 174 000 km and now Im at 183 000 km, living near you at trois-rivieres, and also no track of maintenance.

so far I did:

-new spark plugs with NGK platinium G-power
-new air filter
-sea foam
-new battery
-new radiator with long life prestone.
-new starter
-new PCV valve
-new windshield
-brand new rear calipers + brake pad
-alignement
..

I will change the fuel filter soon as I can. Timing belt? for now all is working fine and I hope I can keep the car 1 or 2 years more without replace it. My transmission fluid is still pink, so I keep it like that. Im gonna probably use synthetic oil , for now I do my oil change each 5 000 km withr regular oil, but I read that our motors can do sludge, so I will not take risk. Mine is working like a charm, hope that it will stay like that, I spent a lot of money on it in less then a year, but I knew that the car were in that condition, so I bought it for 2k less than the asking price.
