oil changes

Postby Dawgz » Sat Jul 07, 2007 1:15 am

well, this is going to be my first oil change since my supercharger got installed (The oil was changed 1200 miles before the s\c was installed)

I have never done an oil change MYSELF on my car, i took it to pepboys where i trust the manager pretty well. But now it is supercharged i dont really trust the workers there with all my gadgets and crap now.

anyway, i know how to do an oil change, but what is the best oil to use? and wat kind? im not gonna go synthetic on the car, just regular oil but what brand and wat kind should i get? and how much of it?

laugh it off, and then leave me a reply.

I have always trused valvoiline and mobil, but go ask your toyota dealer, they will actually help alot, or ask them online, they are really good about getting back to you

Also for filters, i have only heard good things about the TRD filters, try getting the screens too, they are not made by TRD, but they go on the oil filter and catch big things, so if there is a problem with the SC kit, you will find out sooner!

Good luck, remember to flush a bit of oil when you do the change, this is a great way to grab the extra junk out of the pan after your drain,

after you drain the oil, take a half of a quart and dump it through the engine, remember to leave the catch bucket under the car too!

good luck, take your time and have a good time doing it, working on your own car is really rewarding when you feel comfertable with it!

You can use Shell, Mobil, Valvoline or any other name branded oil. For grade you can use 5w30 or 10w30 if you have high mileage and your in a hot climate.

If you have to ask you have no business changing your own oil.

Since the first oil change, I have always used Toyota oil & filter. I either do it myself or take it to my mechanicto get it changed.

Mobil 1 Synthetic.

10w30 or appropriate range for your climate otherwise...

(Amsoil, Valvoline Synthetic, Motul, Redline, etc... are also good synthetics. I highly recommend synthetic.)

^It's NEVER too late to go to synthetic oil; in fact the stuff listed as "high mileage" is just a cheap bastard way is just a synthetic/dino blend.

The brand of filter is more important than the brand of oil. Get yourself a good filter like KN or mobil 1.

If you're not going to go with synthetic, there isn't much of a difference.
