Ok guys and gals. Car is just about finished with the swap however I have run into a snag and am really counting on yal to help me out. The car will not start after the swap.

I can hear it trying to turn over. I have got it to start for a second then it immediately shuts off. This is not the type of noise like clicking when you have a dead battery. Plus I had the battery on a trickle charger so i doubt that is the issue. Can we all get together and start throwing out things for me to check.

Oh yea and fyi the clutch pedal is hitting the starter button when i press it down, and i have it plugged into the wiring harness. I am curious as to if my new manual ecu i got from the junkyard may be inhibiting it from starting. ok guys come on im almost there! :D

Shouldn't have anything to do with the IAC valve. Could be the ECU....
Trust me, I'm a technician.

Make sure you have good spark and fuel delivery. The ECU would be my main concern. Since the engine ran fine before. It did right? So no component on the engine should be messed up unless you unplugged or loosened something and since the car started once....it might be something like a sensor loose. If the MAF sensor is loose it mat run for a second then shut off. The CEL won't come on until the engine starts and runs for a little bit, but if you do get a CEL the code will give you a good starting point. Good luck.

Hell, can't he connect the old automatic ECU again? The only thing that should pop up is a CEL, but it should at least start.

look, if you don't change your ecu the car won't start, and your wiring harness as well, because the computer is not detecting the transimission doing so to prevent further damage its preventing the car to start. you will need a manual ecu and i think it won't be able to be connected to the same wiring harness due to the fact automatic has more sensor's.. so go to the junk yard find a 97-99 camry or 99-01 solara, and you will need a manual ecu and wiring harnes.

Sounds like you MAF took a dump or the signal is not reaching the ecu properly.

what he said

as long as the neutral/park wires are wired together on the tranny harness, the motor will start

and on that note, did you switch the harness or did you keep the auto harness?

I would definitely check everything related to the MAF as well. When mine was jacked up, the car wouldn't start except for once like you mentioned.

when you texted me last night i forgot to ask if it was cranking slow or not at all or what... what exactly is it doing?

i say plug in the a/t ecu again and see if it starts. if it does, you got a bum ecu. it ought to start w/ an auto ecu, but will probably throw a check engine light.

is the ecu itself bolted down solid so it has a good ground thru the ecu case?
