Rear calipers are sticking..

Rear calipers are sticking..

Postby GreeKAvaLoN » Sun Jul 12, 2009 11:45 pm

So, I been noticing my car squeaks often, i never really paid much attention to it cause i have been angry with the car but since I been getting serious i checked it out a bit. I lifted the rear wheels and whenever i spin them it makes this grabbing/rubbing sound. Immediately I figured my brakes where getting stuck. Before i jumped to conclusions though I asked one of my smarter friends to take a look and he said my calipers are getting stuck. Both of them.. Has this happened to anyone else where BOTH calipers are holding the wheels from spinning? It's putting a lot of resistance on my wheels when i try to spin so obviously my brakes are "engaged" slightly. Are there rebuild kits or what can be done for an avalon? Yes, i saw ASG's post and thought "this is a perfect time for this!" then i realized i think i already have those brakes on this car.. I'm not even sure =[.

help? lol
are avalons supposed to be this fast?

is the hand brake completely down? it should be. lol

to figure out whether you have calipers, check what color the rear brakes are; if theyre black, you have drum brakes. If theyre silver and shiny, you have calipers

hope this helps

^ All Avalons are 4 wheel disc.

It;s normal for there to be a slight rubbing when you spin the wheel wheels off the ground. But just HOW much is it rubbing/sticking? If you spin it with all your might, will it not even make a full revelution? Will it make 2, will it make 4 or 5?

There should be no resistance that i know of when you have the car up in the air.
The wheel should move freely when the e-brake is off.

i know i have disc brakes lol i just don't know if its the same set-up as the solaras cause i know you guys take my front brake setups (same as es300 i believe) but idk about the rear. The e-brake is "released" as much as it could because i have the pedal e-brake not a handbrake. stupid avalon. depending who pushes it itll spin from 2-6 times only. i believe the passenger side also has "spots" where it slows down even more. if i take it all apart can i fix it that way? I really don't plan on putting close to 200 dollars for this now..

I have had problems with my rear calipers sticking from time to time and replaced them at least once each. I would buy some nice loaded calipers with a life time warranty and just replace them but that is just me.

I saw your vid, that is nothing to worry about, My wheels when lifted don't even spin that freely. A little bit of resistance is normal, as the brake pad are ALWAYS in contact with the rotor. The pads dont pull away or anything like that. Also.... your GF is hott!
