Bosch Platinum 4s

Bosch Platinum 4s

Postby boneezy » Sat Sep 27, 2008 6:33 pm

I got them for a great deal and since Im not boosted, the IK20s were too expensive. I just popped these in and my car runs like a dream. '

However, Ive noticed from the searches that there is a consensus on Bosch plugs being crap for Toyotas, which I don't understand since they are just spark plugs (of course as long as they are the right plugs).

But after reading all the issues against Bosch, now Im a little concerned with the long run performance of the plugs, anyone have any issues (good or bad) with the platinum4s?

Personally I have never had luck with the +4's in any honda or toyota application. My accord hated them and ran much better even with a $1.50 NGK plugs and my solara ran like crap with both the +2's and +4 compared to the NGK iridium IX. Also both my V45 and my Cb750 motorcycles ran horrible with the bosch platinum they did not like to cold start or rev through the range. They only like the NGK r's or NGK iridium IX plugs. And encase you are wondering why I keep trying bosch that is because the closest auto parts store does not carry NGK.

Searching through google for bosch and toyota is also not happy

But if they work for you then enjoy them.

dunno...seems to be a get lucky or not type of experience.

before I went boost and took a couple steps colder with the IK22s, I had the bosch +4s in my car and it ran like a dream as well. put down my 158whp 171ft/lbs run on the dyno with those plugs too, so definitely no loss in performance either.

when i had my cavalier it didn't seem to like the bosch plugs. It felt like it lost power (not that it had much to begin with lol) I went back to ac delco's and it ran fine. Maybe you got lucky

you could luck out... but generally they suck in anything except euro cars. i had them in my grand am (similar to 1gse's cavalier) and they only last about 20k and then the car was stalling. i'm running the ik20's in my '00 and it was worth the money. could definitly tell a difference after replacing the factory platinums.

yeah im starting to get the feeling that it is hit or miss with the plugs. its like the silverstar headlights.. some burn out right away but for others it lasts for years

never tried em, but i know that only iridiums are recommended, and my denso ik 20's work just fine.

well...not exactly...platinums are recommended.

just, iridiums are good replacements for platinums since they last even longer.

yeah thats what comes in the car....denso platinum which are good plugs. iridium is just a cut above that. in reality though no NA car needs to upgrade from platinum plugs.

yeah spark plugs really do seem to be auto-make specific. this is the break down as far as i know. i can vouch for the first 4.

When do you guys usually change your plugs?
I have 74,000km (45,000 miles) on my 2001 lara right now, and was contemplating swapping them out. I'm also storing the car all winter and it'll only be out for another month or so before i put it away...does it make sense to change them now?

toyota says they're good for like 90-100k but i wouldn't leave em in there that long. i did mine at 78k right after i bought my car and it was definitely worth it.

I'll vouch for the last one at least.... If I would dare put another plug than Champion plugs into my Turbo Dodges the car would run like crap...
