How many 02 sensors ar in a Solara?

How many 02 sensors ar in a Solara?

I just came back from the mechanic to do a check engine diagnosis. The code pulled out the o2 sensor. The 1999 v6 solara has four 02 sensors, but they don't know which once since they wanted to do a further diagnosis for $55. Their quoting me $200-$250. Should I head to Toyota? Are there really four o2 senors?

I think that's the reason why I'm running about 20-21mpg highway.

I'd say head to a mech that knows what they're doing. I had to replace my front bank sensor yesterday. My guy hooked up his hand held computer, punched in 2000 Solara V6 and it told him right away which one it was.

Ask them what the code was or you can go to some auto parts stores and they might be able to do the same. BTW, don't go back to that shop, they are only trying to screw you.

I really thought that all cars have only one O2 sensor, learned something new today!

Thanks Java Joe. I don't know if anyone knew this but the new California Law states that Auto Parts store cannot give out codes - I tried calling Autozone an Kragens and no luck. I'll head to Toyota when I have the $$$.

Thanks for the insight guys.

are u serious? so people are suppose to blindly fix their problems or "trust" mechanics to tell them the truth about whats really going on with their car?.

I dont see the reasoning behind this law, but whatever.

You only have 2 on a 4 cylinder.
I bought a diagnostic for my laptop for $90 from: OnBoardDiagnostics
I highly recommend it.

I was looking at that OBD diagnostic. I didnt see a Solara on the list of compatable vehicles and Camry started at 2004. What are you driving and if its a Gen 1, does it still work fine.

It looks from the chart Toyota started using CAN in 2006. I have a 2000 Solara and I have OBDII. OBDII looks to be used from 1996 to 2006.
