EGR VALVE..............

EGR VALVE..............

Postby mowke » Thu Nov 22, 2007 10:50 am

Been awhile since I've been on. First off, Happy Thanksgiving everybody. I've got an 00 w/auto 4cyl, 115k. The engine light came on the other day. I took it to Auto Zone to check the code. It said the EGR valve could be clogged or bad. I was going to just clean it and reinstall, until I broke BOTH of the 6mm mounting bolts. Turns out the valve was full of carbon. The bolts were so seized that I couldnt get them out w/an easy out. I got the new one installed and the check engine light came off. How common are the EGR valves to failure? I could definitely tell a big difference between the old and new as far the movement of the valve. Total cost w/easy out $180, ouch.

I had the EGR problem on my 01 at 55,000 miles, took it to the dealer and they replaced the EGR valve and cleaned out the system, but CEL came back on at around 80,000 miles for the same problem :x
