Figured I'd post this in here since this is viewed more than the camry forum and applies to both our cars. On the e153, what's a good transmission fluid to go with? I was thinking redline but just wanted to make sure that that was acceptable to use. What I used on the t50 in my ae86

I mean, the best seems to be royal purple or redline, of course the most expensive ones. If you do decide to go with one of those i think what recommended is a flush of all 12qts and a refill of the new 12qts...(well that is with the solara at least)

12 qts? wtf are you smoking? Its a manual, holds I bet no more than 3 or so. Even an automatic camry/solara prob. doesnt hold much more than 5 quarts of atf if that

I IN-LINE FLUSHED my tranny ('04 V6 SE Sport A/T) with 10 (TEN) quarts of the recommended ATF from Toyota. (I'll use AMSOIL next time...)

It only "requires" 5 or so if you just "drain-n-fill", but you want to FLUSH THE SYSTEM clean, or it's a half-arse-job...

WORKED GREAT!

...FWIW...

Ok anyway I'm talking about the e153 so ya, just gathering opinions on redline and also would be good to know the capacity I suppose.

hahah, looks like no one knows what an e153 is. Guys, that is the 5speed and NOT auto transmission. It is used on the Camry/Solara/MR2 manuals. It does NOT use the same amount as our autos as it does not need to fill a torque converter or lube all those clutches.

Man, if only I could find my haynes manual, i'd post up how much fluid you'd need to put in. But, I do have a solution that was once discussed by a few of the old guys long gone from this site.

GM Synchomesh.

Sounds crazy but almost all the old members swore that it took care of the grinding and manual transmission problems the've been having. An old discussion of a person here who did a manual swap was unlucky and got a worn tranny. Having the swap done, he wanted to keep it in there but wanted a quick and simple fix. Tried all the fluids, but seemed that the GM stuff did the trick. Hope that helps.

I think it was 4.2 I know it was between 4 and 5 quarts and I think you7 use 75w-90. I used mobil 1. So get 5 quarts and fill till it runs out of the filler plug.

according to dealer service manual,
it is 4.4 US Qt for E153 manual transmission,
2.7US QT for 4 cylinder camry manual transmission
doesn't hurt to buy 1 bottle extra incase there is spill
