The dealership has been a royal pain in my a$$ about this, they refuse to fix it. They took it for a 17 mile test drive, and that's about it. I told them I am not picking it up until it is fixed, or they are going to have a big problem.

Anyone have the TSB number yet, or at least the phone number to a dealer who knows about this?

Jewls,

I would recommend you drive the service manager in your car and duplicate the problem for him/her. I was able to make the car behave this way just about everytime I slowed to 20mph then quickly accelerated. I don't recommend letting the dealership drive your car while you sit in the little service area. Nine times out of ten they'll never find the problem even if it hit them in the head! :D

Good luck!

I do recall somewhere in this thread someone mentioning a possible TSB coming out. Has there been any further information on this?

Yeah, they actually offered that to me, but I did not get off work in time. Kinda hard to duplicate a problem when I don't know when to expect it also. We'll see.

From the NHTSA website, there seems to be a TSB for the 2004 Sienna regarding this issue. I think the 2004 Sienna shares the same engine. The TSB # is 00703 and it came out in Nov 2003.

Oh I'm sorry. I was under the impression that you have a V6. Wow, I couldn't believe it also happens to the I4. At first , I thought it might caused by the 5-speed Auto. But now i guess it's not.........

I noticed a similar problem with a hesitation with mine (SLE V6), but I think just moving the shift to the left makes the tranny much more responsive even in the above cited 20 mile range where you cannot switch to 5th...

Just called the dealer, the Toyota Rep is there now, and the service manager is going to discuss it with him to find a possible fix, so day three without my new car coming right up! :(

Got the "fix" Don't get your hopes up

Postby jmack » Tue Jul 13, 2004 6:38 pm

Well, I just got back from the dealer with the "fix" FYI, the service bulletin number is TSB #EG007-04. Quite frankly, I could not tell the difference. Had an incident of throttle lag on the way home. Not as bad as before, but noticeable. Will drive the car for a few days and report back. Also, I was interested to see if this would make a change in my SUV style mileage (16mpg combined driving) Will see.

Thanks for the TSB#, I just e-mailed it to the service manager, and hope to get my car back today, it's been three days now. :( Let me know how it is after this weekend.

OK... Now this is the second time this has come up with cars I have owned BOTH times it was with cars that use a drive by wire system for the first time... The problem is NOT the tranny ... it is the CPU and the fact that everyone is used to the old school throttle cable system which gives instant mechanical feedback to the driver... This issue came up with my old VW jetta when VW first changed to that type of system and the people on VW vortex went crazy about it too...FYI- there is no fix...they can try all they want to fix it but the problem is unfixable... the TSB for the sienna is a different issue unrelated to the cpu ( tranny prob ) .

Now I am not saying that some people might be experiencing a different problem than I am and I am sure they are because a 2 second delay is INSANE... my problem is the slight delay in pushing the throttle until it registers a response... PLUS the car does take time to figure out all the things necessary to make it go when you hammer the throttle quickly...which is normal

I personally think if a company offered a chip for the ecu that was performance oriented it would help greatly because right now the CPU is designed for economy and not sport.

Since you mentioned the Sienna trans problem, do you know what it is? I'm just kinda concern because I though the Sienna has the same tranny as the Solara.

Yeah, I thought it was designed that way to meet the ultra-low emission standard.

i think you mean NHTSA, and there are no current investigations listed for this problem for any 2004 Solara's on NHTSA.dot.gov web site?

where did bkp_duke get that info?
