Warning - New problem for Gen 2 ECM module

Warning - New problem for Gen 2 ECM module

Just took car into dealer. I have been having a problem with weird throttle response. Gas pedal doesn't seem connected at first. It was one of those things where someone other than me might not have noticed, but I could tell a real change. Then, the other day, when trying to merge onto an expressway, I floored it. I could count 1 little second 2 little second before anything happened. And I mean nothing happened for those 2 seconds. Car wasn't moving. Then the gas hit and the car took off. By then a truck was getting ready to flatten me. Then car was ok rest of day. I took it into the dealer, fully expectiong to get the brush off, but they tell me there is a service bulletin for the ECM and that they have ordered one and will replace it. I will post the bulletin number as soon as I have it. This seems like a real safety issue to me.

Yes, NITSA has an investigation ongoing about this. Hopefully it will be resolved quickly.

Thanks for the info. Anyone know if Toyota plans a recall or not?

jmack,

Thanks for bringing this to my attention and explaining a TSB is/will be issued. I have experienced this as well, but thought it was me being overly touchy. I look forward to a TSB being issued so I can get it taken care of, too.

I noticed a throttle delay that was not related to shifting. At times it seems as if the foot pedal is not connected to the engine and then it hits and off we go. Not a safe way to enter the interstate where traffic is going over 80 mph.

Thanks for looking into this. It reminds me of the left drift problem. I am sure Toyota will correct it.

Yep, mine does that too, had no idea what caused it, figured it was just me going from a V6 Camaro, but glad it's not my imgination!

It looks like this is affected both the I4 & V6 automatics...I have experienced this as well, even in sport mode and didn't think it had anything to do with being in "drive".

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one...this is another item to add to the list when I go back to the dealer in a few weeks. They still can't find the rattles from both sides of the rear plus my sunroof farts even after using a silicon lubricant.

I've got this problem too - I've tried to start using the tiptronic thing, cuase by dropping into 3rd, I can usually get the quick burst i'm looking for.

And yep - its nearly killed me a couple times too - driving in the city w/ a delayed acceleration is pretty crappy.

Wonder if the same thing is happening on 2004 Camry's, ES330's, and RS330's which all use the same engine. Shouldn't they all be having the same problem?

I have had that happen to me several times, but seems as though not as severely as some of you...

Just had this problem yesterday while trying to get thru a traffic circle just as the beaches in the area were emptying out. Getting in and out of that traffic circle, which nobody seems to know what to do is never fun in the summer.

It's way less fun when you floor it, and go nowhere for 2 or 3 seconds.

I've had a little lag before, but never this. Totally not cool.

Our RX300 has never done this.

Well, mine goes into the shop on Monday morning for this, and also to fix the left drift for the SECOND time, let's see if they can get it right this time!
