Who Has Changed Speakers?

Who Has Changed Speakers?

Postby Jewls » Sat Jun 19, 2004 9:02 am

Ok, since I was lied to by my dealer about having the upgraded system and found out I have the crappy one, I want new speakers. I don't want a box in my trunk or anything, just some replacement speakers to go into the stock places so you would never know the difference looking at the car, but that sounds way better. I am so mad, I was wondering why it sounded so crappy, found out I don't have the upgraded JBL system. I need some brand names, speaker sizes, and estimated prices. I know some of you guys are very knowledgeable in stereo so please help!

I guess really all I want is new rear speakers. The front ones don't bother me all that much, but open to suggestions. I have a friend and a family member who work for Best Buy, so i can get stuff cheap. I was looking at about $250 or so, since it will only cost me about half of that.

Hey Jewls,

Are you only planning on replacing the interior speaker? Any plans for a sub in the trunk? I was looking to get a custom 12" sub in the back right corner later on down the road.

No, as I said before, just want to replace the rear deck speakers. I need all of my trunk space because we travel a lot.

I'm not trying to slam you, but this really doesn't answer the question. I want to replace all 4 of my 6x9s...I am worried about depth more than anything - both for the doors and the rear deck (due to the luggage release bars).

Do you have a gen 2 and have you actually replaced the speakers???? I ask because your avatar is a gen 1...at least thats what it looks like to me in the lighting...again I'm not picking on you, but you really didn't answer the question. Everyone is free to provide input, but unless you have replaced the speakers in a gen 2 you probably aren't helping the person that asked the question.

If anyone wants to kick me off of here for saying this, then the hell with 'em...I get frustrated when I get answers that don't help.

I was simply trying to give her some "brands" that I feel would work well no matter what the application. It's going to be up to HER to decide what she likes the best. Perhaps you have some information that WILL answer her question. Also I didn't see YOU asking for help in this thread. Instead of nitpicking my post, why dont you do some research for her and help her out. Obviously you didn't like my answer...

Jewls one thing to keep in mind that when you mix and match speakers, sometimes the "timbre" doesn't sound right. My infinity fronts sound completely different than my stock rear speakers do. They arent that great of a match. What do you not like about the rear speakers???

If you search you'll see that I HAVE asked this question previously but didn't get a response.

Basically, I wanna change out the front and rear speakers. I don't feel like they are loud enough nor do they have the kind of bass I am used to. I guess to me it kinda sounds too much like a boombox rather than stereo sound. I have the monsoon system made by boss in my camaro, and love the way it sounds. When I roll the windows down in the solara, I wanna be able to hear the music without worrying about blowing the speakers, with the stock ones, I worry I am pushing them too hard. My only concern replacing the speakers is that I want everything to look stock. I think it was mentioned that aftermarket speakers may not fit properly into the stock housings? I already have a CD/MP3 player for it, just waiting for a kit to come out for the dash. Any info would be appreciated. :D

Jewls does your car have a factory amp at all?? If not I suspect even changing the speakers isn't going to help that much. The factory and aftermark HU's may simply not have enough power to play the speakers at the volume you want....

I have the regular system, so it is doubtful it has an amp. I love having a new car, but hate that there are no aftermarket things available for it yet. Maybe when I finally do get my pionner HU in, they will sound better? :-?

I previously owned a 99 Solara with the JBL system and the old system sounded a whole lot better - especially the rear bass. I think something like the JBL Power Series 6x9 would sound great - it has a 93 dB sensitivity rating so it shouldn't take much to drive it.

I had the 6x8 Power Series in my 2002 Mustang GT (big mistake, but I needed a car and it was cheap) I owned between Solaras and it rocked with just the 4 6x8's and a small sub...the Mach1000 system was no match for the Alpine Vdrive head unit and 4 JBL P6252s with an Infinity BassLink sub.

With the Solara still being new, I am hesitant to try replacing the speakers with something I don't know is an exact fit. I'm sure that the JBL Power Series should be fine on the screwholes, but it has a larger magnet and is probably deeper than the stock JBL speakers. As of 2 weeks ago neither Crutchfield nor Cardomain.com had the 2004 Solara in their database.

Once I adjust to the new (higher) car payment I'll probably go to Hi-Fi Buys and just have them upgrade the factory speakers. If anyone has some feedback on swapping the speakers ina Gen 2 out, please let us know!
