newbie & quick question about car color

newbie & quick question about car color

Postby richy » Fri May 21, 2004 9:40 pm

Hey all. Newb to this board.. Must say, excellant.

I have a five-month-new 2004 Solara, V6, SLE. The dealer I got it from sold it to me for $19,550 -- fully loaded. I didn't even test drive the damn thing (neither did my father) and we bought it -- mainly because of the great price he offered us (almost a $9,000 mark-down price). I love the car and everything about it, especially the gas mileage now that gas is almost $2.50!!!!! And, not to stray off topic, but I have ~3750 miles on it already -- so is it time for an oil change?

One thing bothers me a little bit -- the color. It's called "Cosmic Blue". Pic here: http://www.toyota.com/images/vehicles/camrysolara/gallery/color/photo_5.jpg. I'll try to get pics of my own car, if possible. In the showroom, the color looked darker than it actually is. And because the day I bought it and the day I picked it up were BOTH rainy and cloudy days, the color still looked dark to me. Honestly, when I bought it, I thought it was the dark blue that Toyota calls "Ocean Pearl". But, alas, it is not. I haven't even seen another Solara in Cosmic Blue. I've seen Matrixes in them, but no other Solara.

What do you guys think of this Cosmic Blue? Is it too girly? Because in daylight, it looks purpe (or... "periwinkle", if you will). And if you think it's too girly, what the hell should/can i do about it?

Thanks for all/any input.

I personally love my Cosmic Blue Metallic. I had to search out for one that had the dark gray interior.

My first Solara 04 SLE (Second one is below in my Signature) was a Cosmic Blue, I chose it of 4 different colors (not including Artic Frost), for me it didn't look girly, and what I loved the most is that it combined perfectly with the dark stone interiors, and you were not seen too many of those on the streets. Same than Artic Frost, too bad a thief thought the same and stole it from me, well, I don;t know if it is too bad or not, cause if it wasn;t for that, I should not have my Convertible now, JEJE.

It's absolutely amazing you could get that kind of a price for a brand new car from a dealer. Is the dealer related to you? That is a big profit loss for him. For that price, you should be happy getting any color at all! I'd take any color! After all, you could just spend some money getting a top quality repainting and still come out way ahead.

Yeah, I like it more because not that many people like it, at least not that many people who like it _and_ buy it. (I guess I'm saying I like that it's not the most common color) Oh yeah, did I forget to mention taht I'm a guy?

if you need to be convinced its a good color or a guy color I cant help you with that but if you find the color is too light I can help you with this.

I wont give you an opinion ill give you a solution if you want to make the color look darker then add some darkness to the car hers what I mean.

get a black lisence plate cover get some black mud gaurds behind the front wheels, tint the windows, tint or get darker rims ( see post about dipping rims in this site by mattyboyl)

By adding more black the color of the car will look darker by contrast

Cosmic Blue

Postby cosmicstarr » Mon May 24, 2004 2:26 pm

Cosmic Blue is the best color for this car. Well besides black, but black is only nicer when it's really clean.

I had a hard time finding my Cosmic Blue SLE V6 w/ Navigation. It looks great with the dark stone interior.

I'm beginning to see a lot more Solaras, but I've only seen a couple Cosmic Blue colors. I think this color is nicer than the Oceanus Pearl.

By the way, I'm a guy.

I wish I got the price you got! $19k????? Is it fully loaded?
