SLE convertible or Honda S2000?

SLE convertible or Honda S2000?

Postby maoz » Fri Apr 23, 2004 5:55 am

I'm currently wrangling with choosing between buying an 04 SLE convertible, or an 04 Honda S2000 (convertible). I don't currently use my 01 Solara SE's back seat (only had passengers back there 5 times in the last 3 years). I like the Solara but it just sits too high for me and the top when up strikes me as a little odd. What are your thoughts on this though decision? I know they are different cars, but the usage will be daily driving in Eastern part of the U.S., no long trips, no kids, I'm 25. Advice appreciated! :D

I think i'd stick with a used cheap reliable car for commutes and have a nice modded kick a$$ s2K for weekends.

It all depends on you present and future plans. Both are very nice cars and both are very different in regards to practicality. My first question wouln't neccessarily be price since they both can be bought at the around the same range. My main question would be, do I plan on having a family down the road. Since you'll more than likely be finacing for quite a few years, you wouldn't want to take a huge hit if you decided to buy another car mid payment. Another thing is the practicality of the two cars. The Solara can not only fit more passengers, but fit much more cargo for trips, groceries, etc. The Solara would also be a safer car to drive than the much smaller S2000. If you want the pure sports car experience with the high performance and handling of a sports car, then the S2000 wins hands down. Both cars will give you years of reliablity and peace of mind when it comes down to repairs. It all depends on your life style and whether you want a sports car or a sport/luxury car. I have to agree with you on the look of the Solara with the top up. The lines of the Solara flow with the hardtop. The rag top was not designed well to go with the contour of the car.

If you're 5'6", I'd get the S2000. Any taller and I wouldn't consider it. My buddy has one, he's 5'9" and it's real tight. I'm 6'2" and it feels smaller than a little kids go-kart. Don't get me wrong, I think they're great cars, I'm just mad that I'm too big for it!

I would pick S2000. more fun and better resale value... but i believe the insurance will cost the way more than solara. The best thing of solara is the roomy and comfortable. Those two thing are the factors that you will start missing solara

I'd get a S2000, cuz I love roadsters. Plus you can have all the fun with S2000, remember it goes up to 9000rpm

No brainer!!! S2000 without a doubt, then call Comptech for the supercharger for some real power.

I agree about the timing...I'd say get the S2k cuz you can enjoy it while you're young...and then as life continues and you need more space but still want a sporty car, then you can sell it for a Solara

Well I finally got to test drive an S2000 yesterday and it was a very nice car  I was concerned about legroom, being 6'1, but it was actually more than ample. I'm trying to sell my 01 Solara privately so I don't get raped on the trade-in, so we will see how that goes. Thanks again for the advice and opinions!

You must be all upper body. I'm just under 6'3" and thought the room was terrible in the S2. I'm more leg than upper body though. It just seems to be a little guys car. But if you're 6'1" and feel comfortable, more power to you! :o
