Need opinions on these 6.5" component speakers

Postby Mudd » Mon Mar 01, 2004 8:30 am

I have the Focal's in my Solara, and CDTs in the Talon (they used to be in the Solara). I replaced a set of JL XR650 components. IF you have enough power, you'll love the Focals, but it all depends on what kind of music you listen to mainly. If you're a rap / hip-hop monkey, you'll like something bright like Diamonds or Boston Acoustics or MB Quarts. If you listen to more diversified stuff, you'll appreciate the Focals, the CDTs, and the JL's.

Instead of listening to what other people like, YOU need to go listen to them and decide for yourself. The biggest mistake I see people make is basing a speaker purchase off of someone else's opinions. They ususally end up hating them.

My 2 cents.

You shouldnt have the crossover set to kill the midbass. If its a two-way componet set its gonna be crossed fairly high anyway to let the transition to the tweeter be smooth. Your midbass is gonna be produced by the front speakers, or at least it should. If you dont end up with some kind of mid bass then all you get is woofer tweeter sounds and it doesn't sound the greatest...
