tire pressure

Postby yanges » Sat Apr 03, 2004 12:03 pm

i got the SE with 215/60/16 tires and wondered what a proper tire pressure is for it?

the plate on the door jam says 29psi, but that seems like it might be too low.....

my tires had 38-39psi in them when i picked it up and that felt pretty hard....

i have them at 35psi for the moment, but wondered what anyone else was running with the 215/60/16 tires....

Thanks!

just what blazed04 said, look at your tire.

the door jam may not be accurate if you have different tires than stock on.

i know of a few cars that are brand new, however have different sets of tires popped on.

i have the Bridgestone 215/60/16 Potenza's that came on it and they have 44psi as max pressure...

i have them at 35psi for now and it feels pretty good....they felt a little stiff at the 38-39psi they were set at when i got the car...

35kpa and low tire pressure monitor

Postby yingwei » Mon Apr 05, 2004 6:43 pm

i just got my car back from the service center, n the pressure monitor on my dash board was low.

I have it at 35kpa, and reset the monitors, but they still come back on after a short while.

in colder climates, its ok to go up to 38-40psi.

the air is more condensed in colder areas.

I've the same problem with mine. I'm having them fix my slow clock issue this Friday 4/9/04 and gonna have them get rid of that stupid low pressure tire light too. It's so annoying, makes me feel like the check engine light is on or something. Hopefully they'll fix it.

My SE Sport is also doing the "tire pressure light" thing. Very un-Toyota like. I mean, a problem, with a Toyota, isn't that unheard of????

i read the manual..... and i believe we have to re-set the tire pressure monitoring system.

The low tire pressure light is set to come on when the pressure drops below 38-39psi. (That's what the pressures are when the car is at the dealership).

The system is then programed to light up when pressure drops below that.

you can reset the system to have the current tire pressure set as the 'norm'. (i'm gonna drop mine to 32psi as suggested by the manual)

Turn to page 137 in your 2004 manual.

Sounds like a good idea. I saw that in the manual but, I just haven't had a chance to do it and will let Toyota Service fix it...I hope(cross my fingers and toes...lol)

Thanks yingwei

Update...

Okay, my slow clock issue has been resolved. Looks like they replaced it with a new one and tire pressure was taken care of as well. Killed two birds with one stone...that's awesome. Let's hope nothing else goes wrong.
